The pool, the grounds and the staff are all wonderful and the villa was very comfortable and unique. There is a great restaurant onsite! Only a short walk away there are a few more that you can find, each with their own charm.

Charming property but tired & understaffed.

The property is charming, and the pool is great.

The property is very understaffed, so we were left feeling neglected - and our expectations are not very high. There is a feeling of Miss Haversham about the place. Leaving us imagining what it would have like in its hay day. Laundry was 4 times more expensive than anywhere else we stayed and we could only pay that in cash, even though Gajah Mina was on the invoice. We were also disappointed to discover our minimal breakfast options (paid for and included) was a lesser version than other villas. This made us feel like we were somehow less valued than other guests (we booked the last villa available) - so we went out for breakfast after the first day (lots of great options in Balian) and we left Balian a day early. We had to walk past the neighbour's dogs (to get to Balian town and beach) who had developed a 'pack' mentality and one even nipped my daughter! So take a stick/handbag when walking into town and don't ask to borrow the hotel's umbrella if it's chucking it down, as they are "only for use in reception"...

You feel like you are walking around a 100 year old secret garden. Private black sand beach, incredible food, views, walks. The craftsmanship on all facilities has stood the test of time.

Rustic, quiet and simply amazing ! A couples paradise

Well! Where do I start? We loved this place. It was a very quiet time of year, a bonus for us!! We have a villa that is close to the pool and the ocean view. This place is rustic, it's out of the way, and a hidden gem. It is value for money, quiet (apart from the ocean crashing on the cliffs at night and the beautiful sound of the birds and the insects). We stayed 7 nights. Now Balian is a very quiet place and there are a few different accomodations in the area, but not a great deal to choose from. We were there on our round Bali trip and I was looking for locations for my next retreat. It is a very quiet place. So if you are looking for busy, shopping, night life. Do not visit Balian. But those of you who love peace and quiet and want to get away from it all. Especially if you love surfing, then this little hideaway is for you. It definitely suits couples. We found some wonderful eating places in the area and there is a great restaurant on site, where you can have all your meals. They are rated for their food and the qualitiy. I highly recommend this place if you are looking to get away from it all and want a break that is nice and quiet. It is gorgeous and the swimming pool it amazing. There is a wondeful nature walk (really rustic) and it takes you down to a beach that you can walk for miles and see no one (it's all volcanic sand, so be prepared to get black feet lol). Anyways we love it and I will definitely be going back there again very soon. What a wonderful gem !! Thank you sooooo much !!

Crashing waves, nature, beach walking Imagine being literally two out three people walking on a deserted tropical beach. Relaxing stay

Lovely place, very quiet and relaxing stay. Very friendly staff. On-site restaurant has a lovely view and good food and the place is only a short 7 min walk to surf and warungs.

Place needs a little refresh and some maintenance. Mattresses need replacing (sagging) and villa needs some small repairs e.g. squeaking bathroom doors and rain shower not working.

The location was amazing, quiet and I felt I could really switch off. The staff were so friendly and accommodating, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

There were a few ants in our room but hey it was in nature so it’s expected.

Great setting, beautiful gardens and quiet

Information from reception was not forth coming and we really had to ask questions and probe either in person or via WhatsApp to get that info. I would have liked an orientation I.e this is a basic map of the area. We asked if we could hire mopeds but reception said they didn’t hire them. After questioning them a bit more we found out they could organise it for us. We also wanted to hire a driver which they arranged and after trying to figure out where to go and what to do someone from reception found a brochure with day trip itineraries on it. Apart from this though it was a great spot to stay

Overall good value for money to stay in an amazing location as long as you don’t mind rustic charm

The location is amazing and the grounds are beautiful but under maintained as very short of staff since the lockdown. Great place to be private and watch the sunsets and walk the beaches

The resort feels like it is coming out of a hard time due to covid lock downs etc the staff numbers are at bare min and it shows in the cleanliness and the general state of the facilities. We could not get our bathroom shower bath to work so had to use the outside shower but this was nice if you didn’t mind having to do so. The resort could be amazing and I hope one day it manages to return to its former glory. Pool is great.

Amazing but expect presence of all kinds of insects

The view and the place were amazing, like heaven on earth

- A lot of insects were there, actually this was expected as it's surrounded by nature but some people are afraid of them. - cleaning could be better - Reception is open from 13:00 to 21:30 only, no phone available only by WhatsApp and no service provided after that time

beautiful and relaxing

beautiful spot with huge pool, nice private black sand beach. beautiful sunset. good food at the restaurant. lots of vegetation and lots of space between the bungalows. you feel that you have the place for yourself alone. a bit far to walk to the surf but they can easily arrange scooter rental.

it is long to get the food at the restaurant after your order. sometimes more than 1 hour.

great location. nice rooms , although a bit run down . food is fairly good and reasonable prices .

staff hardly speak English. Constant misunderstandings during our stay . we moved from one room to another on day 2 . the first room had drinking water and a kettle provided , but the one we moved too didn’t . when I asked if it was possible to get water and kettle like the first room I was told it wasn’t possible . It took about 20 minutes of discussion to finally get one in the room . customer service was lacking . They were friendly but really don’t seem to understand the hospitality industry or English language very well .

Disappointed with the description of the room. There is NO way that the villa we reserved could be classed as having a "Sea View". The villa was nice, rustic and comfortable. However, this place is most definitely tricking people into believing there is a sea view, when clearly, there was not from our villa, villa # 6.

A little bit of heaven on earth

This was my second stay at Gajah Mina. The resort is so beautiful and is an absolute hidden gem. I cannot recommend this place enough if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle. I loved the pool which is stunning! its big with lots of sun and more than enough sunbeds. The food at the restaurant takes a little while to arrive, but is so worth the wait as it's absolutely delicious! I can't say enough about the staff who are all so friendly and kind. Do yourself a favour and book a few nights at the Gajah Mina. You won't regret it!

There isn't much not to like about this place but if I have to say something, it would be the following: - location. It's quite remote and more of a surf spot however, the resort is self contained so no need to leave the resort unless you want to. - bugs!!! Lots and lots of bugs which is to be expected in the countryside however, the painting in my room, above my bed had a huge bull ant infestation behind the painting. All night I watched ants crawling up and down the walls. They didn't come near the bed though so it wasn't a problem. The staff might want to kill the ant colonies inside the bedrooms in Villa 12. Those two points would be my only negatives. Apart from this the Gajah Mina is a absolute dream!

Absolutly wonderful, next time longer

My girlfriend and I went before our yoga retreat. The staff were wonderful. They assisted with everything from my food intolerances to going out of there way to help. The period that we went was off season and we were the only people there. The massage room over looked the ocean and the breeze was so refreshing. We both had a hot rock massage for an hour and a half and was the best. Would highly recommend this place. Next time ill stay there with my hubby its a very romantic place.

Despite the comments above the whole complex is excellent. We had, due to unusual circumstances, a separate booking at the establishment which involved 2 villas elsewhere on the site. They were wonderful. Loads of private external grounds, spacious villa, outside shower etc etc. Great restaurant, ate there every night as little choice locally, but not a problem as extensive menu. Location generally great walks in all directions. But could be considered by some to be isolated. Free tuk tuk available. Unlike others in Cambodia etc. It's not very comfortable, very cramped. But good for getting to local town. Make sure you tip driver. Overall would strongly recommend.

It was all good, but just a few points that should be pointed out. The 2 bedded villa (or at least one of them) is in fact 2 totally separate buildings a few metres apart. This may not be an issue to most people. One of the buildings is modern and comfortable with attached veranda. The other is not part of a matching pair. It has various "attributes" that do not add to its comfort. The veranda is located well away from the building. The shower is very unuser friendly, the entrance up a wooden "ladder" into a narrow doorway is not conducive to easy coming and going. The 2 buildings are in a beautiful location but have very little privacy compared to the rest of the complex.

The worst place ever!

First of all I would like to say many kindness words to the great stuff. You are amazing people! Lovely and peaceful location for weekend and explore black part of BALI. That’s all what i can say in good meaning...

Very disappointed. This hotel is totally OLD. ( 20-th Years!!! ) Our villa was so dirty, no water during the day. And also, photo isn’t real, when we arrived it was different apartments. The mattresses are very old and bed bugs live there. The whole body is in wounds and we could not sleep every night. My sister had to use antibiotics to heal wounds. The price of the hotel is very overpriced as is the food in the restaurant. The price does not match the quality. I do not recommend this place.

De kamer was oké.

Er staat nergens vermeld dat het terrein stijl is en slecht begaanbaar. Na aankomst wilde ik naar het restaurant, ben er niet gekomen, uit gegleden en naar de eerste hulp, we konden daar niet meer verblijven. Niets gezien verder dan het huisje. De enige concessie die gedaan werd was room service, geen geld terug of vragen hoe het met je gaat.

La végétation et les alentours de l'hôtel sont magnifiquement bien aménagés.Un paradis . Les chambres aussi meublées avec goût. Belle piscine , bon dejeuner

Isolé, pas de grab disponible pas de possibilité de retirer de l'argent liquide ni à l'hôtel ni sans la localité tout proche. Je n'avais pas d'eau chaude dans ma salle de bains. .chambre 9.Le neon était manquant et le service de chambre na pas changé les linges, ni remis,du café ou de l'eau alors que nous sommes restés 3 nuits.
