Sunrise Holidays Resort -Adults Only

Generally we loved our stay in this hotel. The location was good, the food was good, especially easy access to coffee, water and juice all the time, it was clean, you could watch all sports events on the TV. We especially liked all the freshly prepared salads and cream pastes at breakfast. The staff was friendly and accommodating. For example, we made it back from a long tour just past 1am and were hungry and they send us some bread and cheese to the room even though the buffet closed at 1am. Beach and Laguna were great with crystal clear water. One star out of five is missing because we were not informed beforehand about putting up a red flag at the beach beds in order not to be approached by sales staff. So on our first day 4 people came and pushed us hard to buy the services so we couldn’t relax for like an hour. One was the beauty saloon - we booked a facial which was ok, a pedicure which was good and a manicure which was bad, they had to redo the shellac the following day and it wore off shortly after, also they tried to cross sell some overpriced products at the saloon while I couldn’t move having a manicure. We also booked two massages which were great and which we would recommend! Through the water activities guy we booked a snorkelling trip which was good and parasailing which was a total scam. We were told it would last 10 minutes in the air, but we were up no more than 3! It was overpriced (more expensive than online) and worst part was the guy who pushed us very aggressively afterwards to purchase pictures which were more expensive than the activity itself, he hopped onto the small boat bringing us back to the hotel and kept yelling at us, we gave him money just to be left alone! The pictures were of very bad quality as well! An hour to forget really! Another annoying thing was that at check out we asked for a taxi to the airport and of course just before leaving we didn’t have the exact change in cash, they confirmed several times that we could pay by card. Eventually, we couldn’t and the guy when at the aiport did not want to let us go until we paid him the full amount in cash, we had a big argument and left Hurghada in a bad mood!

The view from our room was amazing. The beach front was beautiful and we were able to take a good rest. The good was yum as well. The staff was kind and trying their best to make our holiday as relaxing as possible. The average age of guests was quite high, with the majority of couples being Dutch (just an fyi!)

For me (an experienced traveler), this is not a 5 star hotel, but barely a 3 star hotel. Positives: - pool and premises are nice - sufficient sunbeds and shade/sun available - in general: good service: definitely in the restaurants and at the beach. Not so much at the reception Negatives: - Food is ok. Definitely not 5 star worth or the price that I paid - I specifically requested a renovated room, because the other room were supposedly (based on reviews of others) outdated. Well, the renovated rooms are also outdated. It looks like they just (badly) painted the furniture and added some lighting. But it is very badly maintained and the bathroom doesn't seem renovated at all: cracks (in tiles and floors) everywhere, curtains are dangly poorly and in one room didn't even cover the full window - Mattress and bedding are poor quality. My duvet cover had pilling (several times) all over: not 5 star quality - despite the fact that I requested a quiet room: after 4 nights (of a 7 night stay), construction work started: continuous hammering and drilling from 10-16. After complaining, I was offered a different room, so I had to pack all my stuff and move: they 'allowed' me to do that within 15 min, because they needed my old room back. - When asking at the reception for a map, they send me to one of the shops in the hotel to buy a map (since when do hotels not offer maps of the area?) and when asking about transportation to downtown, they offered the hotel taxi for EUR 18 (return), while Uber is barely EUR2. I expect honest advise from a hotel reception, with different options. They were not helpful at all and I felt I was even scammed in the hotel (besides everywhere outside in the town). - at check out they press you to fill out a review form (in front of them) and also not anonymous. I did not feel comfortable doing that in front of them - reception staff was not helpful and service oriented at all Conclusion: this hotel is way too expensive for what they are offering. The food is just ok and the rooms are barely 3 stars. The premises/pool etc are nice. Please be aware that there is 1 buffet restaurant and 2 other restaurants where you can eat (1 restaurant you can only eat there once during your stay). The other restaurant is additional pay for dinner (open for snacks during the day) and there is one restaurant (open twice a week, but I haven't seen it open) with dietary food (gluten-free etc). So food options are really limited. The staff at the restaurants are very nice though. Location is nice too. You can walk around a bit there if you're willing to accept the pushy Egyptian vendors/scammers. The beach is really not that great though. The photos are in my view quite deceiving. Maybe they were taken when the hotel was just new, but the lack of maintenance is def not visible. For me, it wasn't worth the money and I wouldn't recommend it.
