Good and bad things

It was picturesque. The bedrooms were spacious and clean. The ensuite bathroom was big and comfortable.

I think the price was a bit too much for the actual value of the room, obviously you are paying for the photo on arrival. Then we had to cross a very long and intricate corridor to get to our bedroom and then it was obvious that it was the extension building. That would have been perfectly ok, however, the space was not as well heated up and cosy as the main building. Also, when we ordered some drinks from the bar and they were off, and the bar person was not around to deal with this, I went to the receptionist to ask about a solution and the receptionist completely shook off any responsibility saying she didn't deal with the bar. However shortly afterwards she did go to the bar and served a couple new customers. That left us with a bad impression. Finally the bar person gave us a different drink to make up for the ones that were off, but at this point, the bad impression was already made.

The breakfast and evening meals were excellent. The location was good. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Lovely surroundings.

Unfortunately when given a room it was like a maze trying to find it. We went back to reception and they gave us another room. Unfortunately it had a shower over the bath which was very difficult to get in and out. The shower was cold to Luke warm and had no water pressure. The bed was uncomfortable. The place was is need of a bit of TLC. Cracked windows around the building.

Better places to stay.

Nothing. Gone down hill so much since our last stay. No evening meal , no full English breakfast but still want £181 for a night. I'm currently trying to get a refund due to the situation. A 200 mile drive , then having to go out and hunt for a place to eat?!?!. We walked out after 10 minutes to find somewhere else to stay.

Lovely castle stay that welcomed our Dog.

We had our golden retriever dog with us and she was allowed in the bar with us for breakfast and dinner - all of the staff made us feel welcome. The food for dinner was delicious! Breaky the first day was continental and a standard selection was available, the second morning was a weekend so they offered a cooked breakfast and it was divine! Location was great, we loved it and hope to come back.

I think they must have a cd stuck in their audio system, for dinner and both breakfasts we heard James blunt - we thought it was funny, but I could envision some people not finding it humorous.

Every Castle should have a three legged cat

From entry to exit, the staff were lovely and friendly. The room was spacious, with a comfortable bed. Special shout out to the three legged cat the castle has adopted, it’s extremely friendly and cute!

Parents child-free weekend

We got to live in a castle for the weekend, and the staff were very lovely and not overbearing. You could just sit and watch the world go by, and the staff were always around if you needed them. If you are someone who likes to be waited on or with constant interaction, this place might not meet your expectations. We made friends with the local 3 legged cat who frequented the bar. Executive room was very spacious, bed was comfy, room had tea, coffee and biscuits although we didnt use them. Bathroom was huge with jacuzzi bath, shower and double sink which was cool! The hotel staff were happy for us to have our Harris Hawk onsite so we could feed and fly him over the weekend which was very generous. The place is genuinely haunted (look it up!) And that added to character of the place.

Reading the reviews before going, we worried about the quality of the property. There is definitely aged decor, wallpaper peeling behind the wardrobe, furniture is dated and age worn marks, but to be honest, the hotel has stayed true to its heritage - it is an old traditional castle. If you want a castle with modern amenities and modern decor, probably go somewhere else. The only actual negative I have is the bar prices - £2.75 for a can of Pepsi is taking the biscuit.

Interesting looking place. Dinner was good and staff were mostly friendly. They forgot to tell us to put the sign out to get our room refreshed.

Paid £18.50 for breakfast. This does NOT include anything cooked (except hard boiled eggs). Croissants in plastic wrappers. Tinned fruit! A total rip off. If you have to stay here, have breakfast elsewhere A very tired hotel; feels unchanged since Princess Anne visited

Over all great value for money just book a room in the main building so you can avoid the stairs.

Breakfast both day was great. I wish they had told us on check in full breakfast was only on the weekend. Monday was just a cold affair, but still very good!

A very pleasant evening in a castle!

Very impressive grounds. The hotel was very comfortable and I loved the decor. I just missed having dinner but thank you for having a bar and keeping it open later than the restaurant! The breakfast was very good and I especially loved the cappuccino machine! Staff was very friendly.

Mansfield was ok in itself, but disappointed that if you wanted a cooked breakfast you had to leave this hotel and travel to another hotel in the group, and the only consolation to this was that it was still in Tain. (albeit at the other end of the village)

Would have no hesitation in returning to this hotel.

Bedroom was well appointed and contained everything required. Clean and comfortable. Huge selection on the breakfast buffet and hot food cooked fresh to order with good quality breakfast items. Great selection on the menu for dinner, fabulous food. Staff were welcoming and friendly with special thanks to the lovely girl who organised our taxi to the distillery.

The bar closed at 10pm. General public areas were a bit dusty/cobwebby.

This hotel has a restaurant which is closed on Sunday Night so had to eat out, very disappointed. A cooked breakfast is only served at weekends, On weekdays it is a continental breakfast. We would not go back to this hotel because of that.

Perfect for our stop over on our tour of the NC 500 and the Glenmorangie distillery within 5 mins

Breakfast was lovely plenty of choice and lovely local produce used and staff were so lovely and friendly and informative about the local area and other locations on our journey for the NC 500. Would highly recommend dinner in the nearby “Platform 1864” bistro , lovely…

A fridge in the room would have been nice but it’s an older property (castle to be exact) and a little dated but still a lovely spot and still charming with excellent parking facilities and close to everything we needed,

Lovely staff. We slept in the castle itself. It was a spacious room with a large bathroom. We had dinner in the castle and it was very good.

Eminently forgettable,

The hotel bedrooms we were in are reached by stair from reception up one flight then across a long corridor then down stairs. There is no lift. There is no ground floor access to these bedrooms. Breakfast was miserable. Cheap orange cordial, poor coffee, no hot food option, not even porridge. No room service unless you request it, reception did not advise of this in advance.

A building of potential, needing severe investment and re- marketing to survive.

The breakfast was appalling. The self service selection was visually and quality wise very disappointing. Likewise the cooked breakfast was over cooked and appeared to have been re- warmed, having been cooked previously.

See above. We were supposed to stay at the Mansfield but actually stayed at the Morangie. We were "upgraded" to a superior room, I dread to have stayed in a standard room. The bathroom was a disgrace.

The breakfast was ok. Maybe we were a bit late down and there wasn't a lot left. On the whole it was good.

Overall it was perfectly fine. I did notice there were no water glasses in the bedroom which I would have liked.
