The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were full of character and comfortable.
Beds were a bit softer than my personal taste but still comfortable.

Fantastic place to stay full of history and quirky features.
Some people may find the low beams or uneven floors a bit tricky but it was part of the charm for us.

Food was excellent.
Staff very caring and friendly despite being short staffed due to annual leave.
All seemed happy to be there.
If the bathroom radiator top was removed and the dust hoovered out, it would look much better.
You couldn’t miss it when sat on the loo!!

In an excellent position in centre of Melford. The room was level and original with oak beams. Breakfast was superb.

Beautiful Tudor building, original oak beams and sympathetic furnishings. Parking, breakfast, Abbot Ale, all good stuff. Breakfast room had huge wonderfully carved mantelpiece. Couldn't get too close as fire was alight. Welcome in February. Price too was very attractive.
Connecting to internet via Greene King rules of sharing details, not for me. So for 1 night I did without.

Location perfect. Staff friendly. Room super clean.
Bathroom tired especially the rusty radiator. The food was very average - salad not eaten as it was brown and past it’s sell by date.

Lots of steps & stairs and as it’s so old a very wonky floor

LUNCH - good quality and good value. DINNER - good quality and good value again, but service was slow (probably due to a large 80th party and many guests stretching the staff somewhat!) ROOM - clean, tidy and comfy. We slept well. BREAKFAST - Good choice, good quality, but again the staff were clearly somewhat over stretched as it took quite some time for them to notice that the coffee had run out and to replenish it.(Same reason as DINNER I'm sure, as the same party were all having breakfast at the same time as many of the other guests. All in all - GOOD despite the pressure on the staff .We WOULD stay again, but hopefully when there isn't a large party staying at the same time !
Nothing - the problems encountered were, we're sure, unusual, not typical. A result of being popular, with good reason!

Only stayed for one night, but the room and facilities were excellent. Booked dinner and breakfast, and the food was spot on and very tasty. Overall would stay again if back in this area for work.

Beautiful old building , rooms were comfortable and clean, staff were amazing, we stayed for 3 nights just after New Year, food in restaurant was nice and the location at the end of the high street was perfect, plenty of paring to rear.
Nothing, we really enjoyed our stay.

Excellent value for a stay in a beautiful historic public house/hotel with a wonderful atmosphere. Our room was very well-appointed, and the food in the restaurant area was plentiful. Loved coming down for breakfast in the mornings....seemed like an occasion! The local area has so much to do... the park at Clare, the fairy-tale village of Lavenham, and a day out at Ely or Bury St Edmunds.
Nothing to fault at all. We visited in October, so parking was easy, but I can imagine in the summer it might be harder. Plenty of other areas to park locally, though.

Beautiful ancient inn with heavy wooden beams and great atmosphere; comfortable room (beautifuilly clean), and good dinner menu. Pretty main street location. Very good value; the second time we've stayed.
Ideally, a fire exit route not bringing other guests through our bedroom would be preferable!
