Lakehouse At Toyako

The property was just beautiful! Tucked away along the lake in a quiet neighborhood. Several rooms, each with their own en suite bath. Tasteful decor, beautiful, long tables for dining or gathering. 20min from world-class skiing. Nursery care for our toddlers was easily coordinated through the host, as well - a true bonus! We absolutely love this house and plan to visit again!

The stink bugs upstairs were a bit ridiculous, but it winter in remote northern Japan, so I guess that's to be expected.

There was lots of space - we love the plan of the house with the many rooms, the large garden (where we played frisbee) and wide patio and driveway (for our 3 cars). The location of Lakehouse - amidst the lush greenery and literally by the lake - was excellent. We went for morning jogs around the lake and the village was just a short drive away. Bathrooms, kitchen and laundry facilities were great. The host agency provided excellent service - they were responsive with our questions and was on hand to help us when we needed.

It shocked us that there was no air conditioning in this modern house - and in the summer heat the ventilation was just poor - the windows in the living/dining areas were mainly fixed panels, and the standing fans provided were inadequate and just circulated the warm air. There was also no garden furniture for the patio which was just a shame (there were only 2 outdoor chairs for this 9 bedroom house) so escaping the indoor heat was made difficult. Unless some improvements are made, this house is not ideal for summer.
