Château de Chissay

Great to stay in a castle with such a history and with luxury of a swimming pool. In addition Chenoncaux is 5km away and the hotel is close to the river with a nice bar/restaurant and cycle renting. Along the river you can cycle and walk/run to Chenoncaux. Beware only for dogs at the north east side of the river (looking from the hotel).

Excellent hotel. Great location, very clean. Beds are comfortable, and it was very quiet at night. Staying in the castle was a surprise for my family. Great breakfast and helpful staff. The room, by the way, was bigger than it appeared in the picture.

This is an amazing 12th C. chateau with a long and fascinating history, it's a privelage to stay there. It's bot massively child friendly although the pool is lovely, only 1 child option on the menu in a very nice restaurant but again very formal. You pay a supplement for a dog but get nothing for that - not even a dog poo bin! The decor is all quite faded and you should not expect Johansens but aren't paying those prices. The room facilities are almost nothing, but that's part of the charm, a bit like living in an earlier era.

The location was fine. The breakfast was good.

Despite the fact that we had booked the room 7 months prior, we were allocated a room on the third floor up three flights of narrow steep stairs which made carrying suitcases very difficult especially at our advanced years. The toilet in the room was comical, down three steps with nowhere to put one's feet. Contortionists welcome. The restaurant is a bit of a joke with no a la carte, just expensive three or four course options.
