Staff were great, breakfast was Ok
I was put in a room that was right on a busy road, the traffic was relentless all night. (no double glazing). The hotel had many rooms that were not occupied so I don't know why I was put in there. It was 3c out side and the of the rooms 3 x radiators only one was barely warm. The hotel was old and tired.

Quaint old property, refurbished to meet most modern needs.
I think my room’s heater did not work (R. No. 205)
Rooms were accessed by going down from the ground floor and THEN going up. It was very peculiar!

It was near to where we needed to go
At check in. Was told my card had been declined. Even though I could show proof that the payment HAD been made. (A bit embarrassing) couldn't have drinks on our room. So had to pay for each individual round of drinks! Very dated. Rooms. Worn carpets. Hair dryer and iron permanently fixed in a wardrobe. And no where near a mirror (for doing hair) neither worked any way! Lack of plugs for charging phones etc. the road noise was bad, even with the poorly fitted secondary glazing. .

The property was a bit tired. The restaurant was closed the night I stayed. However everything else was fine. Its a great old hotel with lots of character especially in the bar areas.

This is a quirky little place with lots of character and history about it. Good locals bar with some nice hand pulled ales.
Breakfast is basic but decent enough.
Room tatty in places. Filthy windows. Room at the front is not double glazed so not very warm and right on the main road so loads of noise.
No hot water in the morning. Corner bath with only a hand held shower lead.

My 6th stay at this fantastic hotel while visiting family. Old style hotel, great rooms, pleasant bar, superb breakfast and friendly, helpful staff. A real welcoming feel that many hotels now lack. Leonora is always cheerful and helpful. Great value, highly recommended.
I have never had any problem with this hotel. It is perfect.

Breakfast was lovely - Fresh, hot and well cooked.
Location was ideal for what i needed.
Bedroom was clean however i had room 212 which was the front of the building and with only having single glazed windows i heard every car, van and lorry driving past which kept me away until early hours of the morning.
Asked for a pint glass for the room and was told NO.

Large, but cosy room with nice en-suite. Good breakfast, although on day 2 the chef was off sick so the cleaners made us toast and coffee. Friendly bar with good beer. Lovely staff. Some nice pubs close by.
The rooms are a little tired and need updating without losing their rustic charm. Needs double glazing to quieten down the road noise. But cannot complain for the price they charge.

The character of the property and the quirkiness of the annexe rooms with the folly like structures. Charming and different - characterful
It was a little overheated for a menopausal woman! They immediately swapped my room for a cooler one.

Once again, this was excellent value for money. The room, the bar, the breakfast and the staff were all top quality. As this was third visit in three weeks, I was welcomed as a regular.

Nothing.
Staff looked drained on arrival, restaurant was not open that day, should have been as advertised online. Room was dirty, carpet was wet, hair in the bath, mouldy windows that would not shut, made it cold all night - extremely loud noise from nearby venue, lots of shouting until around 3pm, people arguing. Worst hotel I have stayed in for years.

This would not look out of place on Peaky blinders. Lovely charismatic building that takes you back in time. Staff were excellent, good beers in the pub and the breakfast was terrific. If you like original fixtures and fittings, this is a great place to stay. Free parking too.

The room was quaint and the breakfast was excellent. The WiFi was good and I enjoyed a pint in the pub. There was an Asda very close by.
There was quite a lot of traffic noise at night.

Lovely and very helpful staff. Beautiful old pub with lots of history. Very good breakfast, very clean.
Not much at all, rooms could do with being updated but that’s all.

Traffic noise

(1) Beautiful period property, sympathetically restored & maintained; (2) Cooked breakfast; (3) Close & convenient connectivity to town centre.
Prospective guests should consider location on main road creates traffic noise day & night.
(1) Hard, foam pillows; (2) TV picture/sound shonky, likely from poor signal; (3) Breakfast menu would be enhanced by addition of porridge, black pudding & natural/non-fruit flavoured yogurt option.

Very quirky, old building with loads of character! Very good value for money. Friendly staff, clean and a great breakfast. Free parking which is an added bonus. Would definitely stay again!
Not a complaint, just could have had blinds on the windows, only had curtains which you had to draw in the bathroom and bedroom.

The manager was awesome couldn't do enough for you, great craic from the moment you walked in was like leaving a best friend today!!
The lack of a microwave and little fridge in the room..

Lovely room, easy check in, walking distance to a large grocery store, lovely breakfast, friendly staff.
Unsatisfactory parking arrangements. We were directed to a poorly designed and surfaced parking lot across a busy street and had difficulty fitting our car into it. No easily accessible restaurants in the immediate area. Traffic noise.
8.0 / 10.0
I liked the fact that it was so different from the modern run of the mill hotels and near a large pedestrian shopping area.
The shower, poor lighting. There was nowhere where you could read a book, and brighter 3 light in bathroom.

The breakfast was good
No water in the room—had to buy from the bar (2025, people!).
Loud traffic and late-night car music kept me up.
Room felt stuck in the 80s: tiny TV, patchy Freeview, missing handle.
Bed banged against the wall; plug sockets in awkward spots.
Hygiene woes: no hand wash, curtain tie-back fell out.
Ironing board looked like it survived a war.
