    The only decent thing was the location and even then it wasn’t exactly how it was photographed online. Apparently it’s a 4 star resort, but I would highly disagree. The beach is quite rough and it’s not really good for swimming most of the day. There is no beach at the front tip like it’s advertised. There are two pools, but the lining inside is outdated and peeling and you can see black mould around the edges. It’s really disgusting and should be addressed for health and safety of the guests. The rooms are quite nice and authentic. The menu was very limited and there were many items not available. For a 4 star hotel, this should not happen.

    A great place to stay and the best on the island, hands down. The management and staff were very accomidating making sure each guest felt welcomed, each day. The restaurant was very good and reasonably priced making easy to stay right there on the grounds. Startfish on the beach at low tide and hornbills in the tress at sun up. Excellent sunset. Hats off to the managment team!

    The photos online give the impression of a low budget Maldives style escape with beachfront bungalows, beautiful turquoise water and soft white sand. In reality that part is fairly accurate. The sea is stunning, especially in the first half of the day, and we even took canoes out and spotted a turtle which was a highlight. The bungalows themselves are old but comfortable, and being right on the beach is a big plus. The restaurant has been nicely renovated and feels charming, although the food is average. Where the property really falls short is the pool areas. The smaller pool is in particularly bad condition, old, worn and frankly unhygienic, with what looks like deteriorating plastic lining. It is not inviting at all. The larger pool is also uninviting. Given that the sea becomes too shallow to swim in during the afternoon due to low tide, having a clean and appealing pool is essential. The pool closest to the restaurant would be the obvious one to renovate. The hotel also needs more hands on management. There are things that people who have been there for years no longer notice. For example, when we first entered the restaurant we were hit by a strong mothball smell coming from the area where the breakfast items are stored. It was very unpleasant and immediately put us off the food. Another issue is comfort and layout. The beach chairs are difficult to enjoy in the afternoon because of sandflies, something common on less touristy Thai beaches, but still worth noting. Strong repellent is a must. The bungalows are also very close together, and adding some greenery such as bamboo or other low maintenance plants would greatly improve privacy and the overall feel. On the positive side, the staff were excellent throughout, friendly, helpful and genuinely welcoming. We also visited Charlie Beach for sunset. While the sunset was beautiful, leaving the resort for the plastic chairs there is not really worth it. The most disappointing part of the trip, however, was seeing the amount of trash across the island. After more than 10 years in Thailand, we have seen a lot of change, but it is still shocking to come across places that are so heavily affected by poor waste management. It is a real shame, because Koh Mook has so much natural beauty and potential. Overall this is a place with a fantastic setting and kind staff, but it needs serious improvements in maintenance, cleanliness and management to match the image it presents online.
