Our home away from home in Germany

Aquarium is our home away from home when we go to northern Germany. We have been coming back here for over 15 years. Aquarium never disappoints. Placed in the heart of Friedrichstadt the hotel is smack in the middle of absolute charming surroundings. The private parking is very appreciated and makes it easy to visit the hotel. The asparagus dishes are amazing and the rooms are wonderful - a perfect blend of renovated modern facilities and preserved old charm that match the soul of the surrounding city. We love this place.

What makes us come back again and again: the consistent feeling of always being welcome and so appreciated as guests - plus the beauty inside the hotel and in the city around it.

For the purpose of the short visit, this was a very good hotel to stay.

Breakfast was good, but expensive. The location was excellent.

The shower cube was a bit small and not easy to get in. No lift.

Check the room before they dump you in an old one

Breakfast was very nice

The room we booked on your site looked very modern . We believe we received the oldest room in the hotel which didn't totally look like the pictures on this site. what is the use of pictures when you get there you don't receive the room you booked for. We won't go there again

Nice and central

Very friendly staff and owners. Location is central, but still quiet enough to have some peace when needed. Breakfast was quite good, lot's of good options. At first I was in a normal double room, then extended my stay by one night in one of the suites. If you can, take a suite. I liked it a lot, especially the view was nice (third floor).

Comfortable, stylish, welcoming.

The hotel is in a nice historic location. The personnel is offering exceptional hospitality both in the restaurant and in the hotel. First we got a room where the window didn't close properly (otherwise the room was absolutely lovely), so we talked to the lady at the reception who immediately offered us another room (actually it was an upgrade). Also, we enjoyed the spa facilities: the sauna area and the pool were very clean and comfortable. The food and drinks in the restaurant are of the highest quality. No doubt this hotel was the best choice in Friedrichstadt.

Beautiful stay on the canal

I liked the location - right on the canal, the restaurant and the staff. I liked the parking space as well - right in the backyard. The breakfast was delicious - a good selection of quality products and the staff in the restaurant was really nice. I loved the fact that I could bring my dog. There was also a very nice welcome gift and preparation for the dog.

I didn`t know that the restaurant would have been overbooked and that there were not that many options at 8.30 in the town - I feel like the hotel could have informed us. I also was not aware that for the parking there would have been an additional fee (I might have overseen it while booking, not a big problem but I was surprised). In the room I feel like there should be a proper door, the glass sliding door it does not give enough privacy. Last cleaning of the room was badly done - only change of towels and nothing else (I was quite disappointed)

Lovely place

Overall a great stay, most staff were very friendly. Extra effort was given to decorate the room in a lovely way for my parents' wedding day, very much appreciated! The room was very nice and clean. Breakfast was good too. Restricted service under COVID situation is fully understood. Would definitely book again.

There was always an issue with hot water in the afternoon which was neither explained nor solved but ok, it can happen. Some staff were not very friendly and helpful (e.g.it was forgotten to refill the coffee pads and when it was mentioned later no apology but actually a somewhat rude answer that it is the customer's job to call the reception and ask for refill - while it should be a normal housekeeping job in first place). Understood that everything is a bit different under COVID.

Third time in Friedrichstadt. Hope to get back

Big nice beds. Almost too big for the medium sized room! All spotlessly clean.

Nothing not to like. Can't blame hotel for the weather. And for the German habit of "Montag ist Ruhetag" meaning that about everything is closed. Yes, the restaurant in Aquarium seems very expensive. So did not use it. I am not keen on stairs. No elevator.

Ein tolles Hotel! Sehr stilvoll eingerichtet, kleiner gemütlicher Wellnessbereich. Hervorzuheben ist das vielseitige Frühstück und vor alle Dingen die Freundlichkeit des Personals. So einen charmanten Service findet man selten.

Ein sehr schönes und gemütliches Hotel, freundliches Personal, ruhige Lage, sehr leckeres und reichhaltiges Frühstücksbuffet.

Durch die Nebensaison war vieles in Friedrichstadt geschlossen - dafür kann das Hotel aber nichts. Die Natur rundherum ist im Sommer mit Sicherheit sehr viel schöner - dann ist der Aufenthalt absolut zu empfehlen!

Wunderbar an einer Gracht inmitten der Stadt gelegen. Der Empfang war sehr freundlich und das Zimmer angenehm groß. Das Frühstück war gut.

Leider - ein echtes Manko in vielen Hotels - waren die Kopfkissen schlafraubend schlecht. Es ist ein subjektives Empfinden, aber diese dünnen Lappen reichen nicht aus, um guten Schlaf zu garantieren.

Einfach fantastisch

Vier alte - zu einem modernen Hotel zusammengefassten - total renovierte Häuser direkt an einer Gracht. Endlich ein Hotel mit sehr gut geschultem Personal hilfreich, freundlich, kenntnisreich und großzügig. Der Besitzer kocht selbst und zwar sehr gut.

Ich musste die 2 Heizkörper im Zimmer von 5 auf 1 stellen, so heiss war es

Das Schwimmbad und die Sauna im Haus. Für Gäste steht eine Flasche Wasser zur Begrüßung bereit. Ebenso bietet ein Wasserkocher die Möglichkeit, sich einen Kaffee zuzubereiten. Das Zimmer und Bad waren sehr geräumig, sauber und ruhig. Die Begrüßung war familiär herzlich.
