Romantik Hotel Aquarium

We love it here. Sinple, quiet, peaceful, restorative without being flashy or cold. Great staff too. Everything was perfect.

This hotel was absolutely perfect for us. We spontaneously booked when our train was cancelled and loved it so much we booked two more nights. This is not a paid review and I actually rarely write them, but I felt so relaxed at the end of our stay that I wanted to share my experience this time. The staff was extremely kind and accommodating, the building and rooms are beautiful with historic charm, the location right on the river was sooo peaceful and quiet, it was heaven. I loved the wooden beams on the ceiling in our room and the large window from which one feels a fresh breeze and peaceful bird sounds in the trees along the river. The whole experience was utterly relaxing, possibly also because the energy of Friedrichstadt feels so pleasant and unrushed. The sauna and pool were simple but large and sunny, with an old-fashioned charm which was perfectly sufficient for a nice unwind (don’t expect a fancy modern aesthetic but lots of space and functional utility). The breakfast was surprisingly good and it was really nice to have breakfast in a bright, large room with big windows and taper candles on each table. Pancakes, bacon, baked tomatoes, fresh breads, muesli, fruit, cheeses, espresso drinks, juices…everything was perfect. And the gin selection in the bar was excellent! We will be back. :-)
