Riad Fes Kettani

We loved the architecture, it was very authentic, maybe even a bit overwhelming. We loved the staff, specially the 2 riad managers. The breakfast was also delicious. Location, it's hard to say, Fes is a very windy place, so it's hard to get lost and disoriented, but the riad was central for sure, in the heart of medina.

We arrived passed midnight, due to our flight, and it was very nice that someone met us outside of the medina to walk us to the riad (taxis cannot get there). But then when we arrived, almost at 1 AM, the riad was in absolute darkness. Not a single light. And because it was a very old an authentic building (which is a bonus), it felt a bit scary at first. And it was hard to find our rooms or even the switches, to turn lights on. Would have been nice if at least 1 light was left ON for us, knowing we will arrive late. The other issue is that the bathrooms need a bit of a renovation. There was mold at the bottom of showers (and we saw 3 rooms and they were all like this). But other than these 2 issues, it's a real beautiful and authentic place. Watch out if you have mobility issues, upper floors are pretty steep to get to, so book a room on the ground floor.

Staff were fantastic - especially Latefa, nothing too much trouble, a real star. Room - great AC mattress shower.

The location was great for seeing the Medina but as with all Riads the walk to it was difficult for some of our party. The alleys get cleaned during the night so best to arrive earlier in the day.

Breakfast was excellent and location was very good. Access to the Riad with narrow streets is a challenge. Staff was very very friendly.
