Hanafubuki

The food was really great, and I really enjoyed the experience of private baths. The inn also made sure to organize separate dining spaces for group and solo travellers to maximize the dining experience

There were 2 cockroaches in my room just in the one night of my stay, and it took a really long time to get someone to come handle it. There also didn't seem to be great coordination among the evening staff - the staff didn't put out my futon during dinner as they said they would, nor did they pull out the paper screens to block light (it took a while to figure out how to do it). I felt rushed during the dinner service too, to move through courses more quickly - then when I asked for them to wait until I had finished each course before bringing the next one, I was completely neglected and had to wait as much as 5 minutes after finishing a course without anyone coming to check on me. My calls of 'excuse me' in both Japanese and English also went ignored.

Ofuros - different styles

Everything - this was one of the best hotels I have ever been. It was just perfect. If you pass by here, you must try it!

The plentiful hot springs were enjoyable to try. The breakfast and dinner were elevated and enjoyable, however it was a bit difficult to eat the grilled fish as the bones are left in.

Large insects in bedroom. For a $400-$500 USD stay it is unacceptable to have multiple large insects crawl into your bedroom, especially when sleeping on the floor. We lost peace of mind and sleep due to a 3 inch spider scurrying around the walls at night. I woke up to a large centipede next to my head beside my pillow. We also had to kill other large bugs with our towels… The forest setting is great until you realize the bedrooms aren’t actually sealed from insects.
