Not much! The staff were polite.
The room was dirty. The bed looked like somebody was sleeping in it! One heater and the heated towel rail did not work. Despite being advertised as a bistro, no food was available except for breakfast. We were frightened to eat breakfast, so I cannot rate this. Switches were dirty and did not work. The elevator appeared to have not worked for years! The toilet would not flush. The bar was headache inducing loud. There was a DJ type of set-up and the music was so loud as to be uncomfortable. Plus, the TVs in the bar were bellowing over that! In the guest only section the staff/relatives were using the facilities.

Unfortunately the kitchen was out of order so we didn’t get breakfast.
We were high up & it was January so it was a little cold (windows were draughty).

Great staff and great place! Spent the evening in the bar area and was shocked how cheap the drinks were. Beds comfy and room was spotless!
Will be returning! Thank you!

Large comfortable room.
Friendly greeting on arrival.
On-site parking.
The room faced out onto the main road, so there was some traffic noise, but still slept very well.

Room was large, bathroom was lovely. Great powerful shower!
Could do with some modernisation. Disappointed the kitchen was closed for refurbishment so no breakfast.

Born & bred very close to the hotel, the location was ideal, although Pill has changed somewhat over the preceding 35 years! 😁
Large room and comfortable bed.
Parking access slightly hazardous due to narrow entry.

Friendly helpful polite staff. ☺️ Helped with taxi numbers. Kitchen is being refurbished so they told us about local takeaways/restaurants and that we could have delivered to hotel and they would also provide plates & cutlery. We took up offer on one night.
Location around hotel looks a bit rundown but hotel itself is ok. Unfortunately kitchen was closed due to refurbishment which meant we had to eat elsewhere first night & breakfasts.

It was quiet, the building was attractive inside, the room was very comfortable and the bathroom was extra large
too many tv's in the bar area all clashing with different noises

GM was very helpful and insightful. Really liked the place with a bar. Although they don't do food yet, tge GM was very helpful in recommending places on Just Eat

Raj on reception was a really lovely and helpful guy.
Location wasn't pretty as its a port but it was safe.

Very little.
This is a enormous Edwardian Pile in a fairly run down and out of the way part of Newport near the now defunct dock area. Someone has made an attempt to turn it into an Hotel and Bistro and has obviously run out of money and customers. What's left is a Mausoleum of a place with a number of old fashioned, reasonably clean Bedrooms, a huge unwelcoming bar area, apparently only one employee, no lifts working and no Kitchen - so forget Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner. There's nowhere else within striking distance to get a Meal.

The owner and his team are all lovely and worked hard to make sure we were looked after.
The kitchen was still being refurbished so the hotel organised a local take away us (excellent food) and provided plates and cutlery.
There original features (stained glass, amazing bar) are fabulous and we had a huge room looking out onto the Transporter Bridge
The location was perfect for our needs although the surrounding area is run down. There is evidence of work happening to renew though.
I would have been useful to have directions to the car park but we found it round the back, the entrance is narrow but doable.

The staff were very pleasant
The car park is very narrow
The hotel is extremely dated, the bathroom and bedroom weren't cleaned that well, also no hand towels.
The area around the hotel wasn't very pleasant, and it felt quite unsafe as a female.

Bar is great, room was very big.
No food available at all and nothing nearby to get food. Tiny details need to be addressed and it would be fine, like having only one teaspoon in the room which wouldn’t have mattered apart from having to share to eat and the mattress was too hard for our taste. I do feel it is early days though and it will be better as time goes by because we certainly felt the owner and staff wanted it to be good.

It was clean and quiet.
There is parking at the back of the hotel as well as parking on streets.

Quite a grand old building, reasonably well looked after. Huge room with en-suite bathroom containing a bath long enough for me to stretch out in, and plenty of hot water. Comfortable bed and very clean. Staff were all very friendly and accommodating- let me take my bicycle up to my room (thanks). Handily situated for the Geraint Thomas Velodrome and the hotel is easy to find on satnav. Secure parking round the back (if you can make it through the narrow archway). Fluffy white towels and a trouser press (if you like that sort of thing). Right next to the Newport Transporter Bridge - an amazing structure - unfortunately not working at the moment pending refurb.
Don't think there was an option for breakfast or dinner at the hotel but this didn't really bother me. They provided a list of nearby restaurants, the nearest of which was about 15 minutes walk along the main road. Nicer Italian restaurants required a longer walk up the hill past the hospital. The area where the hotel is situated is unfortunately rather run down. There is a small convenience store across the road but very little else. Hotel is close to a busy road so there was quite a lot of road noise (earplugs were provided). I was on the top floor so no noise from the bar.

The staff were excellent. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted and taken to reception, where check-in was quick and we were given our key card before being shown to our room. The room was outstanding, with thoughtful touches such as ear buds in the bathroom for showering and complimentary biscuits on the counter. The bar was also fantastic, offering a great selection of drinks. I had lost my key card and the staff was very helpful in providing me a new key card within minutes.

Staff were absolutely amazing. Friendly, chatty and welcoming.
Beautiful building, with amazing original features, feels like you're going back in time. Absolute must for people who appreciate old architecture and features. .
Great location.
Needs a refurbishment to get it up to date, but for the price it was fine.
Lift was out of order and there was alot of stairs....but I'm weak and lazy 🤣
