Great spot. Very accomodating.

Location is very handy for us, we've used the Clayhanger a couple of times now for access to a local venue. Really friendly and polite staff. A pleasure to deal with and if we're back at the same venue, without hesitation we will seek to use the guesthouse again. Very accommodating.

No issues from us. We used the Clayhanger because we were already familiar with the good service and facilities they had and will definitely use again in future if we're back in the area.

Disappointing but just served a purpose

Location

Room was damp , heating only came on in the morning for an hour or two , no heating only came in the evening , so damp room and damp bedding . Plus beds not great 🛏️

Great value for money. Friendly hosts that leave you to it, but are on hand and responsive if needed. My second stay. Highly recommend for a cheap stay over.

I enjoyed my stay

I loved everything, great value for money, location is close to train station and not far from the hospital, the toilets and bathroom was always sparkling, the room was spacious and had hair dryer, radiator, hot water boiler, stuff for tea, and highlights for me was the 2 robes in the room, tv ( had so many things to select from ranging from Netflix to prime, itv, YouTube etc). Extended from 2 days to 4 days because I almost forgot I wasn’t at home, and everywhere is so peaceful. I will definitely be coming back. Kudos to whoever owns this place, because you could tell they careful thought out the comfort of their customers

Basic, did the job but no more.

Bed was ok. Fridge in room but very noisy so ended up turning it off overnight.

Was a bit dusty in places. Didn't use the kettle as the element looked like it had lost the chrome and the inside was stained brown. Lots of notices saying don't stain the sheets or towels or you will have to pay for them. Was ok as a one night stay but wouldn't have stayed any longer as the overall vibe was one of functional rather than relaxing.

The bathroom really needs a towel rack for towels to dry properly for multiple night stays. While the bed was reasonably comfortable, it was too soft for my personal preference.

Clayhanger was spotlessly clean, great facilities and very comfy beds. Nothing was too much trouble and Katherine was great with any queries etc

Road was a bit noisy, so did not open the window which left us a bit hot for sleeping. Would recommend a fan in the room

Basic but clean overnight accomodation near the centre of Newcastle-under-Lyme.

The guest house was centrally located in Newcastle-under-Lyme. Although along a busy road the noise in my room was minimal. The room was clean and contained a kettle and the usual tea and coffee making facilities. Towels were provided.

The room was definitely on the small side and there were fairly steep stairs to get to it. I was asked for ID on my arrival. However, having stayed there a number of times before, I wondered whether this was really necessary. Due to a previous misunderstanding on a different occasion, I had also been promised a free breakfast on my next visit. However, there was no mention of this and given that the lady did not seem to recognise me I felt it would have been inprudent to mention it.

Disappointment & Initimidation

Exceptionally disappointed with the twin room given the many positive reviews and high scores I read on booking.com (shabby and dated with stains/dirt in the bathroom), which was then massively exacerbated further by intimidating behaviour by the person I believe to be the owner when we were leaving to find somewhere else to stay. This individual was knocking on the car and standing in front of it as I was trying to pull away onto the very busy main road and then started using his phone to either film or take photos of us and the car, which caused a tremendous amount of stress and upset on top of the already disappointment in the room and pressure to very quickly find somewhere else to stay. A very stressful and upsetting experience overall.

Really friendly, welcoming, a home from home.

We were able to park outside (this is day and time dependant so check the signs). We were greeted by a very friendly lady who showed us to our room. Room was comfortable, and had little fridge, tea and coffee facilities and a little en suite toilet and shower, and the curtains blocked any remaining light well. Beds were comfortable as well. Breakfast wasn't included but when my friend said she didn't want anything cooked the host Kevin didn't charge her for hers anyway, he was super friendly and welcoming. We were there for one night for a reunion at the university and had such a nice time we parted saying we could come back, and if we do we'll look to book at Clayhanger again.

Only thing I'd say about the room, booking a twin room I always imagine the beds will be a little bit separate, rather than pushed together but it's really a minor point, we aren't a couple but have shared rooms before so wasn't a problem, but some friends might prefer a bit of distance.
