It's set in a beautiful location, on the edge of the village, overlooking a meadow. The sun hits the outdoor tables just right, making it a really enjoyable place to have a drink outside when warm enough. There was a real buzz about the place, with plenty of locals in the bar. We were greeted by the landlord, who was very friendly and chatty. We felt immediately at home. Like a lot of pubs these days it gets quieter after 9pm, but it never felt empty. Inside, the decor was subdued and calming, making it a really relaxing place to eat and drink. The menu wasn't extensive, but I'd rather have less choice and better food - which is exactly what we got. Everything was scrummy, and the service was excellent. Although the car park is tiny (3 or 4 cars max, maybe?) there was plenty of parking outside on the road and around the village. Speaking of the road, it was very quiet, which made a nice change from the hustle and bustle of home. The room we had was the Earl Grey and although smaller than expected, fulfilled almost everything we needed. The bed was super comfy and the feather pillows felt expensive. We were served a fabulous breakfast. The full English is good but I'd have liked another sausage. I do realise I'm a bit greedy though. The fruit and yoghurt was especially good. I don't know where they find such thick yoghurt. Thank you to all the staff - we'd be back in a heartbeat!

Soundproofing. It was quite obvious there was someone staying in the larger room above us, but although it didn't disturb us, it's worth pointing this out to light sleepers. Larger bath towels would have been nice. We spoke to the landlord about this and like most things in life it basically comes down to cost.
