The staff were very friendly

Couldn't get booked in for a evening meal as it was fully booked but we asked at 5pm and there was loads of seating available, which I thought was poor I did try and ring and emailed during the week before I stayed to ask if we needed to book but got no reply, room was extremely cold when we first arrived, I rang reception and they sent up a lady that spoke no English to 'fix' it, thats was fine we then had to leave the hotel and go out and have a meal which we did not intend on doing as it was freeIng cold outside and we just wanted to relax in the hotel, back to the room again at 7pm still freezing cold had to shower and get dressed in a cold room is not nice when your after paying over 200euro for the hotel stay, went down to the bar for a few drinks bar staff was very friendly but the atmosphere at the bar was poor enough it being valentines night, a lady was singing which you couldn't even hear from the bar area, we went back up to room at 11pm and again room still very cold, went back to reception again a man brought up a oil filled heater and checked the heating on the panel and said it seemed to be not working but ask for another heater if we need it and just switch off panel on the wall as its only blowing cold air around our room! We the plugged in heater to find that there was no power and it wasn't working either, I gave up at this stage and just got into bed and went to sleep. Not good enough in my opinion for a 4star hotel

No fridge in the room, quite expensive for an Irish hotel, for a family of four, we were given a room with two double beds, most other hotels offer a double and two singles for family of four

Lovely, modern, clean hotel, 10mins by taxi to centre of Dundalk. Spacious rooms & comfy beds. Jack behind reception was excellent, extremely friendly, knowledgeable & funny. He added a lot to our stay!

Decent hotel with nothing out of the ordinary

Staff were very nice, has basic gym and free wifi and TV systems are good.

Bathroom was disability bathroom and you couldnt really sit on the toilet as a back pad literally covered most of it. Shower was also disability and the curtains just came in on top of you when you showered. water was scorching hot no matter how far you turned it down.

We were only there for one night but would not hesitate to return for a longer stay.

Breakfast was first class with a fabulous selection for the standard Irish breakfast. Those wanting a Continental breakfast are also well catered for. Staff were friendly and extremely polite and helpful.

Absolutely no complaints about The Gateway Hotel. I would recommend to anyone visiting the County Louth area.

Staff was so nice and helpful and chatty, room was sooo comfortable. I got the best sleep of my life. Staff was also transparent about the pricing being a bit high and suggested ways I can get a lower rate next time. Amazing experience

The property was beautiful, modern and very clean. The room was perfect with an amazing view. We got a call to our room from jack, asking did we need anything and are we settling in good? Couldn’t have been more friendly and we were blown away by how accommodating the hotel were to our early arrival.

I loved absolutely everything about the property, apart from the smell of the soap in the bathrooms but that is down to my own personal taste so I didn’t mind at all.

I would have given a top rating if we had eaten out every night.

Bed comfortable, great view, Toilet;- We had a disabled toilet, now if you were as skinny as a rake it would be fine. The pad at the back I had to turn it around so I could sit on it, try it out for yourself. My wife a I both liked the breakfast, good selection of food to satisfy all tastes, plates were warm meaning so was your food by the time you reached your table to eat.

Toilet which I've already mentioned. On our last night we decided to eat in, the food was okay but the drinks prices are different than the one you have online. As I do not drink I ordered a cola at E4.20 for a 200ml bottle that works out at roughly E12.60 a Pint compared to Guinness or Lager at E5.80. Where I live I can buy 24 300ml cans in Tesco's for £7.50. There are several places in and around Dundalk where you can eat and get a soft drink, without it costing a fortune.

Lovely hotel for stop-overs

Good location for access to the motorway. Our room was very spacious, it was my husband's birthday and we got upgraded to a suite. The reception staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was excellent, a great variety of hot, cold and gluten-free food. Overall a great hotel.

Nice hotel, handy to motorway

Handy location coming off the main road from Belfast into Dundalk. Appears a bit in the middle of nowhere, but we just needed a base that was halfway between Belfast and Dublin Zoo. Rooms are nicely decorated and clean.

Complete disappointment

Was surprise for my wife birthday. And she was very “surprised”. Room was great, but there was few big pieces of glass left from previous guest - that dangerous. Under the coffee table, there was a whole family of moths. Food was not really great. Instead of grilled peach, was cheap canned peach, but another one starter was come with micro side salad and rotten watermelon. Table was booking for birthday, but ignored. Only after 24 hours did they realise that a table been reserved, so they called to apologise. Thank , but no apologies are needed- you ruined our birthday.

A lovely hotel

The staff were just lovely. That always makes a place nice. I noticed they treated everyone with the same respect no matter what walk of life they were from. The room was lovely. It had everything we needed. The cleaning staff had it immaculate.

The outdoor garden area, which was lovely but it could do with a little lift of life, more flowers, benches, etc, considering the hotel is kinda in an area that is very much buildings a little oasis to sit out in is a huge bonus... I did notice it was mostly being used by smokers, which was the off-putting side for me.
