Great vibes. The staff were awesome and its a fantastic hostel in a beautiful part of the countryside. I ended up staying longer than planned with no regrets. Also very quiet and peaceful and great for those that don't like noise.

Glendalough hostel, room 15

Staff was amazing. Welcoming and friendly. The public facilities are clean and well taken care of. The kitchen is well equipped.

The shower in room 15 (mixed 10 bed dorm) is a mere trickle. We only stayed for one night, but I can imagine this to be unpleasant when you're staying for longer. Curtains and poles had been torn off the walls in room 15, but we arrived after dark and left at dawn...so not a problem for us...but again, in summer this is a different story. There's almost no storage in the room...nowhere to hang a coat, and the amount of sockets would be an absolute challenge with a full 10 bed dorm.

Outstanding, great reception, spot clean, books, games, and super close to the lake and track roads. Beds and rooms are very well organized and perfect heating. I will definitely be back.

Wonderful experience

We were 10 people, we cooked and had big dinner. Everything was provided. One of the best and most equipped hostel kitchen I saw. Staff was absolutley wonderful! Young and caring people and always helpful. We were very happy about our stay and if you go for hiking it is the best location to start

The staff here are the best of all the hostels in Ireland I've stayed at. There's a Brazilian guy and a Taiwanese girl on reception. Very friendly, very helpful. Nice room, nice kitchen area. The Continental Breakfast was great.

The location of this hostel is convenient, but I had a very negative experience. Several times I caught someone entering my room without permission. It seemed organized by the management, which left me feeling very uneasy. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend staying here.

Don’t walk around happy people will hate

The owner of this hostel get his old dog on me. I was being followed around 24/7 while I was there. He was another hostel Knockree where the same thing happened. This was borderline harassment

I stayed here for about a month and unfortunately had a very negative experience. On several occasions, I noticed someone entering my room without my permission. This was extremely unsettling and made me feel unsafe throughout my stay. Based on what I observed, it seemed to be connected to the management, which is very concerning. While the location itself is convenient, I would not recommend this hostel due to the serious privacy and security issues I experienced.”

The shower was much to be desired and it would’ve been great to have a bunch of hooks to hang our packs and clothing, especially since we were all soaked from the rain. Some way to dry clothes would be excellent.

The room I was in was large, but I saw other rooms that were very small. The man at the front desk was wonderful and helpful.

Far away from town to walk. Food was very poor at the two food sources within walking distance. Bathroom was very dirty, shower curtain was dark with mold and did not extend to the shower floor so the floor is always wet. The shower water never got hot, only warm. Community kitchen was filthy. Nobody is overseeing any part of the hostel. I only saw one person at the front desk and he was running around with his head cut off. I felt as if I was taken advantage of having to pay so much and receiving so little.

Just for one night

Location, nice staff, hot shower, ok for 1 night. You can eat at a nearby hotel.

The room for 3 was very small, no space to store your stuff, it's quite expensive for the standard you get, no breakfast included for that price. Blocked sewage in the shower. This was the most expensive and the least comfortable accommodation on our 6 days walk on the Wicklow Way. I guess you pay for the location here.

Value, great location but dated. The surroundings make up for the hostel.

The small dorms were quiet and beds comfortable. You can't find a better location to stay in Glendalough. You are right beside the old monastic city, near the first and second lakes. Sheep will greet you on arrival. However, stock up before getting there; there are no shops anywhere near.

Not a dealbreaker, but overall, the facilities are dated and unappealing. The small shower in our dorm had an on or off tap, and no choice of hot or cold water (it's not hot for sure). The kitchen and dining areas are handy to have, but we were told that the gas hobs didn't work. Instead, we could use the camping-sized electric plates. But then the minuscule microwave didn't work either. Thankfully, the staff got us a replacement but they weren't aware of the problem. Breakfast too was well below expectations for the price.

Location, clean bedding, and everything needed for cooking is available in the kitchen.

There was no hot water, so after the run I had to return without taking a shower. The kitchen is small for the number of people staying there, although it's possible I just came at a busy time.

Traditional Hostel with bad service & overpriced.

Kitchen was way too small for so many people but really good equipped. Of course the Glendalough Monument is worth the trip and the Hostel fits the place. Staff was friendly, especially the german guy.

The place is overaged so it's definitely over expensive, at least they should offer free towels and breakfast for the price, like decent people would do. Room was too small for too many beds. The shower was a joke, but an old one - no hot water and just one per room. If there were more possibilities then noone told me...

Fab staff, fab, location, worth the stay.. (bring bog roll in case :p)

Staff, fab, beds amazing, even with physical difficulties, the top bunk was accessible. Location is beautiful and the place seems to be kept well. They had entertainment in the form of games, books and dvds onsite too which was fab. I was working full days so literally came, slept and left really early and didnt experience food facilities or anything but i had a glance and they seemed fantastic!

There was no toilet roll or soap and no staff to be found to replenish it before i left in one of the toilets. They did have a large group of teen girls that night it seemed so also possibly exceptional circumstances.. though not being able to wipe when needed at 6am was no fun. There was construction ongoing the night i was there and the back door wasnt accessible and it was a challenge as i was physically limited at the time movement wise and didnt know the door could be opened as there were chairs blocking it, no staff answering phones and only for another guest id have slept in the car. Now too be fair, this was exceptional and its important to mention that! Finally, the bathroom light in the dorm is psychotic. Yes we need to see where we are going.. no, outer space does not need to see that, thank you. I get safety but there is safety and blinding and that is ridiculous. Maybe they can put in a lower wattage or just be prepped and have an eye mask :)

Ok overall, but could definitely be improved

Large and well-equipped kitchen, lots of communal space, friendly staff, on-site vending machine.

This hostel takes advantage of no competition in the vicinity, so charges a lot without providing much. Not enough sockets in the dorms, no individual lights, took me a while to figure out the shower. The most important thing - not a decent drying room after you get drenched in the rain outside! They suggested a small room with a boiler, but it was not really warm and none of my things dried there. The heaters only turn on in the evening.
