The room was very tired and the shower was awful with very little water pressure. I received an electric shock when I went to turn on a lamp. There was no follow up from staff about this even though I reported it immediately

A wonderful oasis of calm in a busy city.

The most outstanding thing was the contrast of the quiet, beautiful property to the chaotic environment of the streets outside the compound. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the yoga class and the wonderful Balinese massages at the spa. The infinity pool was an oasis of tranquility -- the perfect way to cool off after a busy day of sightseeing. Our room was large and beautifully appointed. The semi-outdoor bathtub was an unexpected treat. The room was cleaned promptly and perfectly each day (except when we mistakenly left the do-not-disturb light on, and then, after normal hours, a crew came to clean it for us).

The only disappointment was the lack of vegetarian options at breakfast. We ate fruit, yogurt and slices of bread (no cereal offered) each morning, while non-vegetarians dined on individually prepared gourmet meals. It felt like we were subsidizing those meals, sort of like paying for an open bar when you don't even drink alcohol. Oh well... Everything else at Komaneka at Monkey Forest was great.

I loved The Komaneka but will not return until the construction is finished. I was not pre-warned on booking.

The construction workers carrying building materials through the property and the construction noise really affected the ambience. Restaurant did not have enough tables for breakfast.

Exceptional staff, perfect location.

This is a great spot and a quiet sanctuary in crowded and noises Ubud. Breakfast was decent and dinner really good. The staff were the real highlight here, so genuinely friendly and efficient. The pool is small but nice and the grounds are lovely. My only knock is that rooms advertised as facing a rice terrace are misleading- it’s just a backyard with rice facing other buildings outside the property- not true nature. Happy to recommend and would certainly return!

Unbeatable.

Beautiful kind and thoughtful staff. Exquisite gardens, pool and surroundings. The food was absolutely delicious and better than much of what we’ve ever had in NZ. Smack bang in the beating heart of Ubud! Exceptional in every single way!

Beautiful Retreat in a great location!

I’ve stayed at this location a number of times when I’ve gone to Ubud and it’s still a wonderful retreat.

Breakfast: À la carte with limited choice and the same menu. Not happy after paying so much per night. Location: Centrally located on Ubud Street. Room: Limited choice and too pricey.

Fine for a short stay

Good location in the middle of Ubud center for walking. Breakfast was okay (there is no buffet). Complimentary cookies in the room were nice.

The room did not have any view (only to a brick wall). Not a lot of amenities. Overall a bit overpriced for what you get for the money. Other 5* hotels in the area have been better.

Great and central in Ubud

Great hotel. not too big, which makes it very personal. Exceptional staff. Nice rooms. Very spacious. If you read other reviews saying that the furniture etc. is not new, yes, but it is totally fine and very well taken care of. It is clear that hotel cannot renew the whole furniture every year. It was very nice that we could start with the dinner an hour earlier than it actually opens, since the kids were hungry. This is very much appreciated. The staff also helped to organize a driver to the rice terraces and transfer to the next destination. We even saw monkeys from the pool, which was a highlight for our son. Breakfast is great! You get anything you ask for! Location is also pretty central so that you can reach the main attractions in Ubud by walking.

It is worth thinking about exchanging the canopy over the bed, our maybe think about some other solution how to make sure that it is washed often enough.

The pool, the staff's kindness and care, the size of the room, the breakfast, the free afternoon tea... When we checked out, because we had no idea where to go next (our Bali holiday did not go as planned), one of the lady staff suggested to go to their sister hotel near Ubud, Komaneka Keramas Beach. She also managed to get us a slightly discounted rate. We loved the Monkey Forest hotel so much we followed her suggestion - best decision ever!
