About this house rental

Upgraded in 2019, Hale Ka Mahina isn't your average vacation rental, Hale Ka Mahina is tucked away on a side street between Hanalei Bay and Hanalei town. Easily walk or ride bikes to the beach and town when you want to check the surf or grab a coffee at the Hanalei Bread Co. You won't need to drive unless you are off to explore the island's many beaches.

Located one block away from Pine Trees surf spot you will be sure to enjoy plenty of surf in the winter and perfect swimming conditions in the summer. The house has two king bedrooms, each with their own bathrooms. The large kitchen is open to a great room with extra high ceilings and plenty of room to hang out and watch a movie. There is a new queen size, memory foam, sleeper sofa in the living room for extra guests. The adjacent enclosed lanai area has stunning mountain, waterfall and sunset views. There is parking for two cars under the house and plenty of beach gear and bikes to use. Enjoy the outdoor shower after a day at the beach, then kick back, relax and bike to town for a fabulous meal at Ama or BarAcuda, yum!

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This is a charming, cozy retreat in a great location. The home feels cared for and is bright and cheery. We loved all of the different outdoor spaces and the openness of the layout. Great for two couples or a small family. The beach cruisers were a huge plus!! I’d recommend checking to see if constructions is going on next door as that was the only bummer for us - the deck is right next to the construction noise which was a bit annoying. Also I’d recommend having a basketball so people can use the court across the street. The TV may need an upgrade soon as it gave us some trouble too.

Our best Hawaiian vacation. We loved the beautiful home with all the extras like the bikes and all the beach gear that we used everyday. Relaxing and napping on the multiple lanai's to the sound of the rain and the views of the mountains. The kitchen is beautiful and we made a lot of meals here. With the home one street off the beach and the town within walking distance we only used one tank of gas in our jeep for 10 days. We explored the entire island and nothing topped this location. We did a few hikes that were challenging and muddy but so worth it. Hanalei is truly special! The home is truly special! We walked or biked to the beach and town daily which was incredibly relaxing to rarely have to drive. Thank you for offering this incredible home in beautiful Hanalei Bay! Hale Ka Mahina is an absolute gem of a place! Krisha (property manager) was super responsive, helpful, and just a delight to work with start to finish. We're a family of four with two teenagers and it fit us just perfectly. It would also be the perfect spot for two couples. The two large bedrooms with large closets and en suite bathrooms came with comfy mattresses and pillows, multiple fans, etc. The beautiful kitchen had all the amenities and supplies you would ever need...including quality cookware, sharp knives and a large island with seating...just fantastic! There was a ton of hang-out space including the dining/living area, multiple small decks and a lanai with a huge comfy couch....all with views of the surrounding mountains. The pullout queen is a legit quality mattress. Lots of beach chairs and toys, a few boogie boards and 4 cruiser bikes to ride into town, down to the pier, etc. There's also a legit full-length hoops court and huge green grass sports fields just 50 yds from the house...a welcome setting when you're done with all the sand and beach activities. I can't say enough great things about the property, location, management and Hanalei in general. If I could give 6 stars, I would. We can't wait for our next visit and will definitely stay at Hale Ka Mahina when we do.

We had a wonderful week at this property! The house was super clean when we arrived, the layout of the living space worked incredibly well for our family, the floors, kitchen and decor is lovely, and it’s clear the owners/property manager really have paid attention to the details. There are plenty of bath and beach towels, the kitchen was well stocked with basics and cooking supplies, and the house had plenty of cleaning supplies and paper products. I appreciated not having to go out and buy laundry detergent, paper towels, etc. And my kids and family made great use of the beach equipment that was provided - including two boogie boards, a wagon, beach chairs and two beach shade options. I can’t overstate how comfortable the house is - it kind of felt like there was a lanai or some outdoor lounging space outside every room. We loved it here!

We have used VRBO many times and have to say that this was the best, well-equipped, clean home that we have ever stayed in. It was perfect for 2 couples (ourselves and our daughter and son-in-law) - the bedrooms were perfectly located on either side of the kitchen/living room area and it was a plus that they each had their own bathrooms. The outdoor shower was used multiple times a day and it certainly helped keep any sand out of the house. The kitchen was well-equipped and it was nice to have all newer appliances in working order. We have never seen a rice cooker included, so were pleasantly surprised that this kitchen had one. The beds and pillows were really comfortable (and we're picky sleepers). The bathrooms were very spacious and there was a good stock of soft, different-sized towels. It did get a bit warm in the late afternoons and early evenings, but we got a nice cross-breeze when we left the windows open and fans on. The location is perfect as we only had a little over a block walk to the beach - we toted the wagon, chairs and umbrellas back and forth a couple of time per day, and frequently walked or rode bikes into town for shopping, restaurants and attending the local farmer's market. We especially loved the bakery, getting Dole Whips, and we also had a wonderful dinner at the Postcards Cafe. We really can't say enough about this property - we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning again.

We spent 6 days in Hanalei at Mahina. The property is super clean and spacious. Everything is modern and the location is amazing - 5 min walk to the shops on one side and 5 mins to the beach on the other. Krisha is amazing, between texting her and the information available on their app, it was very easy to get information on what to do and how to do it.. We had an absolutely great week in Hanalei at this property. One thing you can never tell from a listing is how comfortable the beds are, and the beds and pillows in this apartment were really comfortable, including the sofa bed. The beach was a short walk away and we sometimes went three times a day. We also walked to town for lunch and dinner. Tunnels is about 15 minutes away, so the location was great. We had views of multiple waterfalls from the porch, and we were treated to rainbows in the evening. The one downside for me is that the property management company wanted to communicate via an app, and I didn't want to download their app. Fortunately, Krisha was really responsive over text and able to recommend boat rentals, rental car, and help with little things like the wifi password. We also really enjoyed the multiple outdoor spaces, especially the front porch.

The beach gear was awesome- sand toys, boogie boards, chairs, snorkels/fins and BIKES! The walk to town is about 5-8 mins from the place which is very convenient. Truly can't be the location. You are a 5 min walk to the beach- an amazing beach too with great surf for kids and the most beautiful sunsets. The views from the house are breathtaking too. The covered patio is perfect for lazy mornings or post beach naps. Great property and we will absolutely stay again. Just 3 small call-outs to consider: 1.) There is no air condition. The house gets hot during the day, but cools off while sleeping. 2.) The outdoor shower is great, but you are exposed while showering (the downstairs neighbor could easily see you). 3.) There is a tenant that is on the bottom floor of the house. Very nice guy. BUT, something to be mindful of if you have children who run around- likely he can hear all the footsteps. So we were extra cautious about this. We will absolutely stay here again.

Our family loved our 1-week stay at this home in Hanalei. We have two young boys (ages 9 and 5) and found this location to be perfect because it was just a short walk to Hanalei town and to the beach. The house was beautiful, clean, and has great views of the surrounding mountains. Krisha, the property manager, was incredibly responsive and made check-in and check-out a breeze. She also had fantastic tips about things to do in the area. And absolutely fantastic property and experience, and we will definitely be back.

This was our 4th visit to Hanalei and Mahina was our favorite hands down. The home was more than spacious for our family of four. The entire home was fantastic and extremely comfortable, great decor and furnishings. We loved all the outdoor lanais and the bikes were perfect for the short ride to the beach or into town. Krisha was extremely helpful and quick to respond to any questions. The gentlemen that lives downstairs was very nice (we hardly even knew he was there). We will definitely be coming back!!!!

I couldn't imagine a better rental for our honeymoon in Hanalei! In fact, this may be the best VRBO I've stayed in to date. The house was perfectly appointed with everything we could need during our stay. Not only was the house spacious, airy, adorable and well-decorated, it came everything we could need for the beach including beach chairs, umbrella, cooler, cruiser bikes and more. My favorite spot was the covered deck where I read every day. My only concern was that it might be too hot without there being AC, but with all the windows open the place aired out and was very cool at night. The location was perfect as well - tucked away from the main road, but walking distance to both the beach and restaurants. If you're planning a trip to Hanalei - stay here!
