About this house rental

Makalae is a warm welcoming and luxurious home with fine furnishings and fantastic views. This stunning property was expertly built to take full advantage of memorable sunsets in the western Hawaiian sky and the southern trade winds known as Ku'amanini of Weliweli or Ko'omakani of Maha'ulepu.

Located on the South side of Kaua'i in Po'ipu, this architecturally delightful slate roofed 3,300 sq. ft. home has spectacular views of the blue Pacific Ocean. Makalae is exquisitely built with 5" Brazilian Cherry floors throughout. The doors and screen doors are handmade from mahogany wood. The fully equipped gourmet kitchen features top-of-the-line appliances. Slab marble and granite countertops are found throughout the home, and a state-of-the-art sound and security system will make your vacation truly luxurious. There are five bedrooms and five bathrooms, 2 of which are master suites, to accommodate up to 10 guests at a time. This home also features air conditioning and a washer and dryer for your convenience.

The house was perfect for our trip. Kitchen is equipped with dishes, utensils, grilling tongs, coffee maker, rice cooker toaster. Location is great! Having 5 bathrooms was wonderful!

The location and overall size and quality of the place were excellent and I would happily return for a future visit. We had a small glitch with the door code for check-in but there was an alternative solution provided ASAP. The house had everything we needed for cooking, comfort, and outdoor recreation that helped out so much! Having all relevant information accessible though the App was very helpful!

We went with our parents, and our sister and her family and the house was great. The location is easy walking to great snorkeling, beach, shopping,etc. There were enough bedrooms and bathrooms for everyone to have some private space but large common areas for us to hang out. The garage has all the beach needs. Laundry machines in the house made keeping up with that convenient. We loved our stay.

Our group of friends had a great Thanksgiving weekend stay! The house was comfortable, in a perfect location right across from the ocean and walking distance to a wonderful beach. The beds were comfortable, there was enough parking and we appreciated the beach supplies and pack n'play that was available. Can't wait to get back to Kauai!

What a great house to relax with family. Literally across the street from the ocean, within easy walking distance to several beautiful resorts, easy drive to Koloa and Poipu for restaurants, shopping and events. The layout of the house was perfect for 3 couples with two toddlers. Property management was first class, very responsive and helpful. Free concierge service helped us secure tickets and passes to make our stay even more memorable. Mahalo to the Remax Kauai team!

We had an excellent time- it was a surprise birthday trip for my husband and his mother (turning 40 and 70, respectively), and we brought the whole family (and a few friends) for some fun in the sun. The home was perfectly located close to beaches, shipping and restaurants, and the accommodations were perfect for the 10 of us. We could not have asked for a better stay. Everything was seamless. This is a beautiful house in a great location, exactly as shown in the photos. It was well-stocked with paper goods and each bathroom had shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion, and a hairdryer. There are two laundry centers, one in the downstairs primary bedroom and one upstairs in the den area, both with plenty of detergent. The location is great, a short drive or nice walk to Poipu Beach with great snorkeling. We spent lots of time turtle watching on the rocks just across the street from the house. If you don't feel like cooking, the Holoholo Grill at the Koloa Landing resort just behind the house has takeout food and cocktails. I had the downstairs back bedroom and was a little worried about being so close to the resort, but I didn't hear any noise at all, even when they had a wedding there on our last night.

Very impressive house, was great for the 5 couples in our family. Perfect location within walking distance of beaches and shopping/restaurants. Remax was very responsive to our questions/needs. Would definitely stay here again. My highest recommendation for a family that needs up to 5 bedrooms and baths!

This house is the prefect location with a 5 minute walking distance from the Sheraton beach or Poipu beach. Sunsets every night from our house. Walking distance to shopping centers. Remax was easy to talk to and responded the same day. So happy with our stay and can’t wait to return to the same house again with my family of 10.

A great location for a large family. We had 3 generations gathered together and there was enough space for all to be together AND to have a little time alone. Large gourmet kitchen geared to prepping meals for a group. Comfortable living space inside and outside on the lanai. Dining room table was big, but we dined together on the lanai each night (two tables for 5-6 each). Bedrooms were very comfortable. Having a second washer/dryer upstairs was very nice. Sunsets were amazing at the shoreline right across the street, which must be the best location in Poipu as lots of people and cars gathered in this area each evening. We all fell in love with Kauai and will definitely be back to enjoy this beautiful island.

I don’t typically add anything to my reviews, but am afraid I can’t do the house justice. It was every bit as beautiful as the pictures. EVERYTHING met our expectations, from the well-stocked kitchen to the comfort of the beds, to the view of the ocean and the very short walk to fantastic sunsets. We, 9 women, were extremely satisfied with the house. We’re an active bunch, surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, hiking, and the house was perfect for congregating, cooking, and relaxing in the evening. The a/c worked very well. I cannot think of anything I would change. Highly recommend!

Close to shops, restaurants, etc. Nice touch to have beach towels, boogie boards, beach umbrellas and a wagon to use. Really loved this place for a large group. Stayed there with my family of 9 adults. Really excellent location across road from Poipu Landing. Able to walk to beach at Sheraton and several nice restaurants nearby. Lots of gear and beach towels in the garage. Washer and dryer upstairs and down. Easy to work with host company and would not hesitate to recommend.

Beautiful house with lots of room inside and a great front porch. The rooms are spacious and quiet. Angela with REMAX was helpful, try to deal with her, and double check ahead of time that everything is working before you arrive.

The house itself is in a great location with ocean views and very close to several beaches. Large kitchen, living spaces, and bedrooms to easily accommodate our group of 10. We appreciated access to beach toys for the little kids, boogie boards, and beach chairs. Communication with the management company was excellent and they even had an extra welcome gift for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary waiting for us upon arrival. Only downside was that the central AC was broken for our entire stay which made things uncomfortably sticky inside the house. However, the efforts made to correct the issue did not go unnoticed and still would strongly recommend this property.

Terrific home, very clean. Great location to visit island, and enjoyed turtles and snorkeling out front. Thankful that there were beach/water toys to use. I think the views are well represented in the posted pics and it was lovely to see the sunset from the house, or down the drive at the seawall. The AC was not working, which we did reach out about. While not always needed on Kauai (and many rentals without), and since the home has ceiling fans, we could manage. However, it was a restriction on our searches and I do wish it could have been fixed. It seems to have been an issue before, perhaps, so whether it is working could be clarified. Would rent again!

We celebrated my 40th and my mom's 80th in Poipu and this house was such a great fit for our family. We had a lot of friends staying at the Sheraton so the location was perfect for meeting up with them all. The house was well equipped and very clean, the few things that came up were quickly resolved via text. Lots of beach toys and the second fridge in the garage and dishwasher made it very easy for our family and kids to be comfortable. We'd love to visit again and stay here.
