The Old Mill and Cottage

The main house and cottage was in an ideal location for a local festival we went to for the first 3 days alongside Peak District attractions. It had kept its beautiful listed features with so much space, alongside stunning views from the patio.

It’s not so much a dislike because we know the cottage is in keeping with original features but the spiral stairs were a bit tricky for my 70 old mum, however the owners did say we could walk through an alternative route, and they had banisters the whole way up to help. Just a consideration if you have elderly members of your party.

We were a group of friends having a get-together. The communal areas are all spacious with plenty of seating for socialising. Because of the good weather, we were mostly in the garden, but the dining room and sitting room are both great for large groups. The kitchen is very well-equipped with plenty of crockery and even items such as weighing scales, which were handy for making pancakes. The owners made us a fabulous cake, which was a nice touch. Location wise, you can walk directly from the house. There is a bus stop just outside, which we appreciated, as we got the bus back from a longish walk.

Be aware that there is a metal spiral staircase leading down to the kitchen, dining room, and garden, and these can't be accessed any other way. Some people would not be able to manage the staircase.

Could do with an update on furnishings etc. Cutlery,crockery all mis matched , some chipped. Glad I had taken my tea pot, not available. Need new mattress also. Also a better clean recommended. No Heating in bedroom & very little heat in bathroom storage heaters.
