Ample space with a beautiful, simple, traditional vibe. The traditional cedar bathroom was incredibly relaxing. We enjoyed that the host was hands-off. Receiving vegetarian breakfast was prompt and easy. And we were able to do laundry — big plus!
Beds could have been a little softer.

It was very clean and traditional. It gave the perfect taste of old Japan.
It would have been great to have a bathroom upstairs but totally fine that it didn’t. I get that it’s over 100 years old and that’s the way it was built.

Lo que mas nos gustó es el diseño de la casa. Es una casa tradicional japonesa muy agradable. Nos encantó vivir la experiencia de alojarnos en una casa tradicional. Además nos dejaron unas batas de casa tradicionales japonesas con las que nos pudimos hacer unas fotos muy simpáticas en la casa. El salón y el baño muy agradables.
La única pega que podemos poner es que el dormitorio es un poco pequeño para 4 personas. Nos alojamos 4 y teníamos 2 camas y 2 futones. Los futones al abrirlos ocupaban prácticamente el espacio que quedaba libre del dormitorio por lo que estuvimos un poco apretados. No obstante para un par de noches no hay problema ya que además el haber podido vivir la experiencia de alojarte en una casa como esta hace que se olviden estas pequeñas molestias.

It was beautifully decorated, warm and clean.
The facilities were advertised for 4 people and that was deceiving. It felt more like a perfect spot for a couple with small children but definitely not for 4 full grown adults in their 40s. We were two couples and were forced to sleep on a pijama party style with 2 beds and 2 futons in a very cramped space. When we asked to the receptionist we were told to “do as we pleased”, very dismissive. The other alternative was to bring the futons downstairs in the living room, that had a hole in the middle with a table on top. No other solution given. Similar response from booking. Having paid more than £500 for 2 nights, it felt like a little worth for our money. We didn’t sleep properly and didn’t enjoy our trip to Kyoto as much as we should. I’m not a usual complainer, but this was something that goes beyond my comfort zone.
