You need to know what you are signing up for, the futons are thin, facilities are a bit dated and the host was very helpful and friendly during our stay.

This was our first trip so far away from home. I really enjoyed trying to talk to the staff in Japanese. The location is really good, it's quiet and relatively central. We primarily walked, as most busses were full when we wanted to use public transport.

Walkable from Tokyo Station, spacious room, very clean, shared bathroom but convenient, vending machines, laundry, kind host.

Great location close to a temple and Kyoto station. Very affordable.
The keys can unlock any door, and this is a big security concern. The garden is not really usable. The bathroom upstairs has a very bad smell. The sinks in the hallway are difficult to use.
