Three Wheat Heads

The staff, the food and the location exceeded all expectations.

Staff and food ( both breakfast and evening meal) were excellent Perfect location for our Northumberland mini tour itinerary. Enjoyed sitting in the beer garden with its panoramic countryside views. Value for money.

Accommodation areas a little tired.

The Three Wheat Heads is an old, country inn but the interior accommodation has been raised to quite good current standards. Our room was well, if not sumptuously, decorated , clean and comfortable. The rear outlook is very pleasant and peaceful. We took one evening meal which was good. There is no room telephone system which seems quaintly appropriate for a northern country inn. There were almost certainly smoke alarms but I cannot remember seeing any break the glass fire buttons ... maybe I just missed them. However I was intrigued by the notice on the room table saying: "In emergency phone Mr Someone Mob. number" so if you don't have a mobile maybe bring a hand bell. : ) Breakfast started a bit low key presentation with a range of serials in plastic decanter containers (maybe some lidded glass containers might work better ?)but the choice and the contents were fine.. together with a few fruit juices. Take your choice to the table and order from a good range of full English etc etc cooked to order and brought to your table .. all good.

Breakfast coffee pot was a bit bland but I'd noticed a little auto coffee machine which staff were unclear on how to use, but happy to try. They succeeded . Much improved coffee.

Excellent food at breakfast and dinner, huge portions. Very friendly staff
