Convenient location

Location was very good as its very near to the town. Room was very clean and lovely decor, newly done.

No breakfast or no alternative available. Not very clear on website if breakfast is available or not. No lifts, only stairs. No wardrobe to hang clothes. IPAS centre is approx 100m away.

Don't stay here.

The bed was good. The coffee machine worked. The toilet worked. That was about all the good things...

There was no wifi (staff had said the password was in the room but it wasn't). Room smelt of cigarettes. Water only ever got tepid in the shower. Room was cold. No lamps beside the bed, only 1 overhead light in the whole room. No mirror in the bathroom. Carpets were dirty. One of the towels was stained. Over 200 euros a night...I don't recommend.

We will never recommend this place to anyone as it was in tolerable.

The night person was very helpful whereas the day person threw our towels on the floor.

Mold in the bathroom. Water issues; didn’t know if we’d have water or not. Freezing cold; not able to turn on any heat. Two of the three beds were not useable. One person had to sleep on the floor by putting pillows and comforters as a makeshift bed. Management Management did not care.Springs poking in the back. After the first night we told them about the sub standard conditions and nothing was done. Management said they would get back to us and we are still waiting.

Stay away, very dated

Going home

First room we were given was full of take out cartons and drink cups, floor was filthy, not cleaned after last customer. Then we were given a room on floor two. Ceiling in room had damp and mould. Large mould clustered around the shower vent too. Towels felt damp to the touch. Towel for shower entrance hadn’t been changed. Room seemed clean. Then at 10am next morning two people entered the room with their luggage after checking in, while we were in bed. Didn’t even complain at reception, just wanted out of there by the end of it. Thankfully we only had a one night stay booked.

Highly Disappointing Experience

I like it was close to town with in walking distance

I had a very disappointing experience during my recent stay at Troysgate House. From the beginning, we encountered multiple issues. First, the TV in our room was not functioning, and the room had a strong unpleasant odour, what seemed to be mildew. We later discovered the toilet was leaking, which likely contributed to the smell. When we asked to change rooms (as we were staying multiple nights), our request was denied. This was particularly frustrating given the circumstances. We also experienced frequent power outages in the room—on several occasions the electricity would shut off without warning. One of those times, I was in the middle of a shower, which was both inconvenient and unsafe. With no front desk staff on-site, I had to call for assistance. Additional issues to note: There is no elevator, which may be difficult for those with mobility concerns. No housekeeping service, meaning no fresh towels were provided throughout our stay—even though our toilet was leaking. The room lacked basic amenities like a chair at the desk, which made it difficult to get ready (particularly for makeup). This was Room 125, and I paid just over $600 for three nights, which felt far from good value given the overall experience.

Nice small cosy hotel within walking distance of the city center

Very friendly staff. They had construction work going on to refurbish parts of the hotel, but tried to make us comfortable. In general it was very cosy and a nice location when you are on foot. The pub in the hotel was nice for us travelling with kids.

The hotel needed some refurbishment. There were annoyingly dripping faucets and cold showers. Also no large towels. The beds were uncomfortably soft as if worn out, but that may be personal preference. Admittedly they are trying to fix these (at least it seemed that way)

dirty carpets, smell throughout from the entrance to the rooms, no daily cleaning, beds, and mattresses are very thin with very low-quality springs. also staff is stealing, i bought a chocolate bar and it was in the room when i came back it was not there.

Great staff at check in and check out had a few drinks in the bar David the bar man very pleasant and good chat bar lacking few more drink types bit music but overall sport was on tv and it's a nice bar not long re opened but well worth having a few drinks there.

Do not stay here

Kilkenny is lovely town but DO NOT stay at Troysgate house. I have nothing positive to say about this premises. It is a health hazard!!

Definitely would not recommend, bad smell from bathroom. Mould on ceiling, I got an electric shock from light switch over bed. Felt very unsafe and uncomfortable there. Cut my stay short because the place was so bad and we felt unsafe here. How this place has a rating of 7.3 - I will never know.

For the premium price we paid for two nights, this was a very disappointing experience.

The location was excellent. The staff were friendly.

The bathroom was tiny. No room to put your clothes when taking a shower. The shower was a disaster. Either too hot or too cold. Worst of all the toilet seat was broken. There wasn’t even a waste bin in our room apart from a tiny one in the bathroom. One of the bedside lights wasn’t working. No cups or anything that one could have a drink out off.

We stayed at about 10 different hotel locations. This was the worst location that we stayed in Ireland.

The Porter was great and very helpful. However, he was left to maintain a bar and the hotel all alone.

It took over an hour to check in. The room wasn’t ready. There were dirty towels folded as if they were clean. The radiator in the hallway was on full blast, even though it was summertime. The radiator in the bathroom was on full blast and could not be turned off. Other guest complained about overly hot rooms as well. Did not sleep at all

Good location for walking into Kilkenny and leaving your car parked up

The car park isn't immediately next to/behind Troysgate House which needs to be better signposted/explained on the website. The fire safety doors also shut with a bang which isn't ideal when other guests are returning after midnight...

It was very enjoyable and nice place for us

Review. 10 out of 10 for everything including location, staff, cleanliness and above all value for money. The location is so central and immediately adjacent to St Canice’s cathedral and the start of The Medieval Mile. The room was spacious and spotless with a very good bathroom, the bed was so comfortable. However, the most spectacular feature of this accommodation is the outstanding, helpful and courteous staff.
