Ryokan Adumaya

The staff was very kind, the room was comfortable and the location unmatched, as it was right in front of the bus stop of Yunomine Onsen, and 2 steps away from the public bathrooms. Room was incredibly nice, clean and with a wonderful view over Yunomine. The dinner was amazing, the chef agreed to change the menù to our need of not eating meat, even if for some reason it was seen as absurd. We asked the staff for a Bento and they gave us a great selection and it was promptly given to us at 7:30 in the morning, 1h before the bus to Ukegawa departure.

Since it wasn't specified anywhere that we needed to do so in advance, we asked the staff to have meat excluded from our meal at the first time we could, right after the check-in. We had to ask 2 times tho, the first time to the lady who showed and explained all the services the ryokan offered, she went and asked to the chef and returned shortly after to tell us that: no, the meat was going to be served anyway because the chef already prepared the meal in the morning. The second time we politely asked at the reception to have atleast the meat excluded from our meal, and we specified that it didn't had to be replaced by anything else, this time the chef accepted and in fact replaced anyway nearly all that he could to fish, except for a soup with pumpkin, mushrooms and chicken, that was served anyway (that was the one he prepared in the morning it seems). We didn't eat the chicken, but loved the whole rest dinner, it was amazing.

A lovely hotel with indoor and outdoor onsens (hot baths). Very nice staff and an amazing dinner with a seemingly endless array of food.

The pillows filled with rice have to go. Seriously. The hotel should at least make soft pillows available for guests who want them. Trying to sleep on a hard bag full of rice is like, well, trying to sleep on a hard bag filled with rice.

Welcoming staff, welcome tea, monkeys out our window, the onsen experience was authentic, dinner was the most exotic culinary experience we’ve ever had, the small village was charming, parking was not far away at the public lot.

The staff is friendly and helpful.
