Ryokan Adumaya

Very traditional - gave a feel for real Japanese ryokan life. Food and service amazing

Some of the onsen rules a bit confusing and I am a bit old for futons on the floor but 2 nights OK

Ryokan Adumaya is on the age-old pilgrimage trail, the Kumano Kodo. It is a lovely traditional Japanese inn located near a hot spring that feeds its onsite onsen. The ryokan serves both dinner and breakfast; be on time checking in because there are very few outside restaurants in this remote rural village. The meals are magnificent and served in a separate dining room. The rooms are spotless and the staff will lay out the futons for you while you are dining. The onsen was also lovely with its wood and stone decor. Finally, the staff are very accommodating. When we missed the bus that would get us there in time for dinner, we called the ryokan and the staff called an evening taxi so that we could dine there. Truly amazing hospitality!

It was a wonderful cultural experience staying here’s it felt authentic Japanese and the onsens were amazing! It was a perfect stay in the middle of hiking Kumano Kodu. They also offer massage on weekdays.

The staff is friendly and helpful.

Onsen was very old and water not clean
