York is beautiful.Gillygate is not

We were supposed to go here but were cancelled at the last minute and sent to Gillygate Gathering so I have had to review that accommodation. The house was in a good position.

It was dirty. Carpets and couches stained dishes in cupboard dirty. Trip hazard between lounge and kitchen. Carpet coming away at top off steep stairs downstairs toilet had no sink.

It was not clean and needed decorating throughout No downstairs bedroom as stated on the advert Pictures are misleading Oven was dirty No smoke alarms which is No bannister on the stairs

Good location, shame about the cleanliness and parking

Very easy to check in with a code, good central location and although on a busy road we could not hear any traffic.

The property advertises free parking however, when I contacted to arrange this they informed me I needed to give 10 days notice for a parking permit and I was too late! This was not explained at all at the time of booking. The property was very dirty including mould all over the bathroom. The paintwork in the property is also very tired, which is a shame as its a lovely building!

house needs renovating but was clean about for one night

the location was great

there is only one bathroom in the whole property - totally unsuitable for the amount of bedrooms. The bathroom window is broken and very cold. The bathroom also has mould. The hallways and door frames and skirting boards throughout the house are in a terrible state of repair

Disappointing

Location was fantastic.

Shower upstairs is like a box. Carpets could do with a shampoo. Dust all over the heated towel rails. The freezer had apparently packed up the day before. Could feel the springs in the mattress which were small singles rather than a full size single. expensive for what it actually is. Only 2 outdoor chairs and 4 dining room chairs yet the place sleeps up to 12. For the fact that outlooks send you a fancy booklet with information you would think you'd be staying in luxury but you're not. I wouldn't book it again.

Smaller than expected lounge and dining area considering the amount of people that it can sleep. However, this did not spoil our time in the accommodation and we managed. No light in upstairs toilet, and dodgy toilet seat. Could not find a recycling bin, so had to put glass etc in green bin. Although reasonably clean, and no real issues the bin lids for example were very dusty.

We liked the location of the property.

This property is in desperate need of some TLC. The button for the toilet is broken in the bathroom and the upstairs toilet is extremely noisy when flushed. There was also not enough toilet roll left in the property for 12 people. We only had 11 towels left for 12 people. Our group were also disappointed to find that there is no parking pass on arrival, so had to find extra parking even though we emailed previous to arrival to ask about this. The living spaces downstairs are also small, for example not enough seats in the living or dining room areas for 12 people to sit together.

Location was perfect and worked well as a hub for our short 2 night stay.

The location is great as central but not near busy loud areas. The space in the bedrooms was perfect for the 8 of us staying. It has good local amenities nearby as well.

There was a couple of appliances that weren't working correctly or had bit missing such a freezer, downstairs toilet and no iron. Slightly more room in the living room space as was quite a squeeze for 8 people in there.

glad it was only one night

it’s a short walk into town

the pictures are very deceiving it really wouldn’t accommodate 12 the lounge would even sit 6 of us. The toilet upstairs is really noisy to flush and can’t be used at night. No fans in bedrooms all very small and hot ( appreciate you can’t control the weather ) and very near the road so with windows open very little sleep. Despite what it says on website assume no parking and nearest carpark you would have to keep running v back every few hours to top up , they gave our one parking permit away was well !

Good stay

Plenty of beds. The house was clean and quiet.

It's looking a bit tired in places. The flush is missing in the main bathroom and the window in there seems broken. There are no full length mirrors in the house. I think it would struggle to be comfortable for 12 people, we were a group of 6 and we found it a squash in the living room.

Great location, but slightly disappointing stay

The location was amazing. Good size property with plenty of space for 10 people.

Upstairs shower had no hot water at all. The other shower was falling to bits. Temperature was all over the place and the height of the shower head wasn't adjustable as the fixing was broken and so fell to the bottom whenever you tried to correct it. The button to flush the downstairs toilet was broken. The upstairs bathroom was incredibly dusty. They give you a WiFi password but not the name of the WiFi, so you have to go through trying to enter it on every network you can find until one works! There was also no hairdryer despite the info saying there was one.

We were looking forward to a girly weekend in a great city but we felt let down by this property.

The location is great and using a door code took away the fear of losing keys.

Not enough storage/hangers for clothes. We ran out of toilet rolls the day before we left. There were 7 of us. The house was dirty/dusty. Quite tatty in places. Paint work was of very poor standard and chipped in thoroughfare areas. Hole behind kitchen sink. Broken cover on the downstairs shower. The upstairs toilet seat came loose because you have to swivel on it to get to the toilet roll. Kettle dripped water every time. Which is dangerous. There was only one shelf in the oven. Not great when you're cooking for 7. Not enough seating in the lounge for the number of guests. Quilt for the sofa bed stored behind the sofa in the bay window with no cover on. There are too many beds for the facilities this house has to offer. Somebody got greedy.

comfy, lots of room, had all the little extras to make it homely.

no parking and awkward to pull up and get all belongings in and out of the car as it’s on a busy road. had to park on NCP car park nearby which was very expensive. all roadside parking was permit holders only. was quite a walk into town so not good if there’s someone who’s got difficulties with health issues.

this property was perfectly located, we was able to do so many things and knew that the house was not to far away, was very clean and we all felt comfortable and safe there, there was an issue with not enough bedding but someone came to talk to us straight away and was very friendly. even our fur baby loved it!

City break with family.

The close proximity to the city centre and the spaciousness of the house. Great communication with agents. Previous guests had left taking the only parking permit but I had a phone call beforehand explaining this and told to pay for parking, get a receipt and they would reimburse which they did straight away.

It wasn’t that clean on arrival. Pots still in dishwasher, items from previous guests in fridge and when we opened gate at the bottom of the yard there was an enclosed area littered with empty cans and bottles. Beds were very uncomfortable but that was just personal choice.

Love the accessibility to the town centre and the house was perfect for the 10 of us who stayed!

Parking is the only serious drawback with this property. The lack of parking added a further £100 to the total bill for 1 night (4 cars). Late check in/early check out is a pain. Squeaky doors need oiling!
