Fabulous
Fabulous time at the Salt House celebrating my dad’s 70th. Beautiful hotel in a beautiful location and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly.
The spa wasn’t available when we were there due to expansion works but looking forward to going back again to try the new spa when it opens.

Our stay was very special. Great food, comfy in every way
The breakfast was very special. Loved the way it was presented.
Disappointing - misleading listing and poor support for families with a baby
Nothing
We spent three weeks on a road trip around Ireland with our 8-month-old baby, who was on a mixed diet of breast milk and specially prepared baby food. Throughout our journey, we carefully chose accommodations that offered at least a small kitchen area to prepare her meals. For this reason, we booked the Suite with Seaview at The South House Hotel, which was advertised as having cooking facilities.
Unfortunately, this was not the case. The room only had a minibar and a kettle — no microwave, no stove, nothing that would allow us to prepare food. When I raised this issue with the reception, I was told that these rooms were not made for cooking, even though the listing clearly stated otherwise — and still does. This was deeply frustrating and misleading.
To make matters worse, we had been traveling with frozen breast milk, which every hotel during our trip had kindly stored in their freezer without any issue. At The South House Hotel, however, the milk was mistakenly stored in a fridge instead of a freezer, and all of it thawed and spoiled overnight.
We ended up spending the night in a highly priced hotel with no way to feed our baby — no food preparation option, no breast milk.
I tried to speak with the management, who were not available at the time. Later, I received an email saying they had tried to call me (though I never received any call). I responded immediately with my phone number and availability — but I never received any follow-up.
Extremely disappointing experience. I do not recommend this hotel to families traveling with young children.

Exceptional Stay , thanks to Orla, Christine & Paul at The Salthouse
We recently stayed at The Salthouse Hotel in Ballycastle to celebrate our dear friend Sonia’s special birthday, and from start to finish, the experience was outstanding.
A huge thank you first to Orla in Reservations, who organised everything so seamlessly.
When we checked in, Christine at reception greeted us with such warmth and professionalism, instantly setting the tone for a wonderful stay.
Then there was Paul, who went above and beyond throughout our visit. From personally taking our luggage to the room to crafting the most beautifully presented and delicious cocktails, his attention to detail and genuine pride in his work were second to none. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and he even took the time to ensure we had the perfect restaurant selected for our dinner. Every detail was handled with such care.
It’s rare to meet someone who leaves such a lasting impression, but Paul truly will be part of our memory of this special celebration.
The Salthouse is a stunning hotel, but it’s people like Orla, Christine, and Paul who make it truly exceptional. We’re already organising our next stay . We can’t wait to return!

First Visit to the Salthouse
The staff were very good, food was good. The views are beautiful.
We were given one of the rooms looking straight into building work, a wood chip panel. It was disappointing as we had booked a Serene room. On check-in, the staff asked if it was a special occasion as we hadn't told the hotel in advance. We said it was our Golden Wedding Anniversary, so being allocated that room was unfortunate. I don't know who allocates the rooms with restricted views. I would imagine some upstairs rooms might have been free. As we had booked and paid through booking.com, we didn't want to request a room change, as we thought it could be complicated.

Very nice hotel with spectacular views.
The main restaurant is beautifully decorated and the staff were professional and friendly. The food was delicious for both dinner and breakfast. The views down to Ballycastle and across to scotland are. spectacular.
Room was very warm but hotel did provide a fan which helped. Thought the room would have been bigger considering the price but it was nicely decorated and the bath room was spacious.

Wonderful experience would have loved to stay longer.
Room was lovely, very comfortable bed and very nice bathroom, everywhere was spotless. Dinner in Lookout restaurant really delicious especially loved the fish tacos and fabulous onion rings, all staff great especially Diego in Lookout and lovely reception lady sorry can’t remember her name. Breakfast was also fabulous, loved the menu and presentation was beautiful and was again delicious!
Very minor issue fan in room was great to have but a little noisy!

A memorable experience with superb food and restaurant staff who were exceptional. A truly memorable stay, pity it was o
We stayed in an upstairs suite separate from the main hotel building. A real home from home with all home comforts and a fabulous view.
Would really struggle to find anything negative the smallest issue was there needed to be a blind on our front door (Room 302) to preserve our modesty.

Over priced and under delivered. Will not be returning.
The staff in the restaurant are very attentive and do their job well. Unfortunately this is the only positive I have for our stay.
We had a terraced suite - disappointing - no seats to sit on 'exclusive terrace' therefore you had to stand and watch the cars drive past in and out of the hotel - so the initial view was traffic and then the sea beyond. If you wanted some sunshine you had to sit on the doorstep at the front of the suite! Paying £350+ to sit on the doorstep - really! Tea/coffee making facilities - we had two teabags! In comparison to other similar establishments where I have had a variety of breakfast tea and herbal teas alongside hot chocolate options - this presentation felt very cheapskate. Air conditioning system outside bedroom window hummed all night, therefore a very disturbed nights sleep. Breakfast disappointing - the table for two people is not big enough when there is a cake stand in the middle displaying jam, butter, croissants. When our cooked breakfast arrived there was limited room for the plates. As I cut into my food the plate almost flipped off the table unto the floor - embarrassing. The fry was ok, soda bread was tough - could not cut through it; pancake stack with berries arrived with 1 small strawberry, 1 squashed raspberry and 2 blueberries, the bacon was thin strips, hard and tasteless - I have had more generous portions from a local cafe at half the price. Selection presented on cake stand was 'cute' but minimal. The smallest mini jar of strawberry and marmalade I have ever seen; no honey or chocolate spread on offer. We asked for toast, the toast rack was presented with two slices of toast, the rest of the toast rack was empty. Overall for the price we paid I definitely expected more luxury. In comparison to other hotels of the same calibre it falls short in many aspects of a comfortable stay.

Full of promise but we left disappointed that the whole experience did not match the premium prices .
Stunning views, everything feels new and is beautifully designed.
The dining experience does not match the exceptional property features .

General apathy towards general customer service.
The location, views & comfort of bed.
Staff in main restaurant were excellent, despite the searing heat & no air-conditioning working.
Massage treatment in the spa was .
We arrived on an extremely warm day, we explained to the front desk staff that we were eating in the restaurant that evening and were keen to freshen up with a shower and change in readiness. On arriving in our room, my daughter applied her pre-shower treatment products to then only find that the shower was not working. I called reception who said they were aware of the problem but had failed to mention it and suggested, despite the fact she was covered in product & not clothed.... she go & use the Spa showers!!?
There were no products supplied in the room either
There was no apology & no follow up to the fact that the water issue continued. Very poor customer service.
It was only saved by the fact it was a single night.

Our stay at Salthouse exceeded our expectations- the views were incredible, food was excellent, and everything is brand
We absolutely loved The Salthouse! Our stay was idyllic, and our views from our room were incredible. The food was excellent- especially the breakfast. The staff was extremely accommodating to our two toddlers too! We would definitely stay here again, and highly recommend this hotel. There’s also a fabulous playground less than a mile from the hotel, which my boys LOVED!
Nothing, everything was great!

We were particularly impressed with the professionalism, politeness and friendliness of the staff. Nothing was too much
Modern, stylish, exceptionally clean. Location was wonderful overlooking the Antrim coast, on the perimeter of Ballycastle so a quiet location
Lack of fans / air conditioning in the room. The air purifiers in the public areas were most welcome

excellent, great views and pleasant staff
very good
Initially the room we were allocated was not very pleasant cramped and looking at car park. also a strange noise as if we were hearing running. We queried this and were moved to a much better room, this was looking at the construction area of their new spa, but no problem to us, larger room and no strange running noises ! So happy days.

A lovely spot to come and stay, food great, staff friendly except for the building work.
The breakfast was excellent, and the view out the windows was stunning. The staff was very helpfully with any queries and create a great atmosphere around the bar and restaurants. A lovely spot just to relax out and chill.
Unfortunately the room we had there was building work going on outside the window, and there was no view except into a new block wall that was build.

Pretty average stay, pleasent but not worth the extra cost, would not rush back.
Good location for doing the causeway etc but away from the busy areas.
The lookout restaurant food was excellent for lunch.
We had a family room / seperate from the main hotel. Was pretty surprised that there were no menus from the 2 restaurants for room service, no bottles of water or fresh milk, just an empty fridge.

Exhausted, bamboozled, & feeling totally shortchanged-Never again @ this hotel
Friendly restaurant staff, nice breakfast, modern design
MAJOR ONGOING CONSTRUCTION @ rear of property/spa totally ruined what was meant to be a relaxing 2 night hotel getaway. This was compounded by the fact that it was never mentioned on hotel website nor booking.com site, or on subsequent confirmation emails thereafter.
* Finally settled on 3rd room offered/available. Allocated room had JCB parked outside alongside flatbed lorry loaded with large pipes. 2nd had construction workers walk by windows (both ground floor). 3rd room was on 1st floor. Best one in a bad bunch I guess.
* Originally booked a King Serene room with Mountain View but ended up with a superb image of a yellow JCB construction vehicle alongside a large flatbed lorry loaded with pipes which obscured any possible background view.
* Supposed to be soundproofed rooms but entirety of stay was listening to slamming of internal fire doors in the hallways- DEFINITELY NOT AS ADVERTISED
* Constant noise of saws & the beeping of JCB reversing.
* Would have been confined to the hotel where it not for some glorious weather on R full day so immediately vacated property after breakfast, only returning after 5pm when work finished for the day.

Excellent place to stay with very attentive staff.
All the food was good and staff were very obliging and friendly.
I would particularly pick out Oliver, Lauren and the young man with the ponytail (sorry, didn’t get his name) as exemplary staff; a delight to talk to and great customer skills.
Two things.
1. Room maintenance. I reported three things in the very early part of our stay - a coat hook that fell off the wall, a shower wall bracket fixing that was loose and the wash basin emptying slowly. None were fixed before we left. I felt that I was doing your own room quality assurance.
2. It would be good if the serving staff in the dining room routinely took away used plates/ bowls etc. just before they brought, or at the time of bringing new dishes. We had to ask for them to be removed to give ourselves more space at the table. A minor point, but it would be a good routine to adopt.

taxis were hard to get from Ballycastle
