Hotel Cantón

Everything was perfect, better than other 4 stars hotel where we stayed. The location, the staff, the room and the cleanliness, all was very good.

Compact but very convenient, the room was surprisingly modern and comfortable despite the dated lobby and small size. Definitely worth the money, and easy to get to / walk around from. Staff was helpful too!

Lobby needs a refresh but is workable

Hotel Canton is located very close to centre of Barcelona and within walking distance to the Metro. Reception assisted with booking taxi to airport and for pick-up at door of hotel.

However, the room was rather basic. I was surprised there was no blanket/doona provided but perhaps that is normal in Spanish summer. I recognize the need to conserve energy but I was surprised that even with towels left on floor, these were not replaced with fresh towels and instead hung up to dry. In hot weather and perhaps two showers per day, using towels for 4 consecutive days was a disappointment. No notices in room - a welcome change - but perhaps I was not following the Spanish recognised practice to get fresh towels. I require Gluten Free for medical reasons and although bread was provided there was no GF Cereal. Given the various choices of pastries etc. provided for non-GF, my choice was rather restricted i.e. NO choice 2 slices of white bread - again no choice of wholemeal or grain . Whilst I recognise that some GF items can be more expensive than non-GF I felt I did not get as good value for money as non-gf diners. Some serving staff did not speak English which made some difficulties and I had to point to GF messages on chalkboard. My previous hotel in Rome provided a wealth of GF choices so this was a rude awakening. I am glad I had some GF Cereal in my case.
