Honestly, I am reluctant to say just how amazing this place was because I want it to stay a secret and be exactly the same when I come back next time!! Sidemen itself is what I expected to see when I booked my trip to Bali. So sad we only stayed here for 2 nights. I promise you won't regret it if you are looking for beautiful accommodation surrounding by greenery that hurt your eyes there is so much of it! :) From the welcome foot massage when you check-in, the cooking class we took on sight, the hot stone massage we took on-site, the yoga class we took on-site... and the endless food and drinks at the gorgeous pool... If I could, I would have stayed forever!! Thank you so much to Joel and the wonderful team... all the staff deserve 5 stars!!! Dreaming of seeing you all next year!

Amazing experience thanks to Joel family and his team kindness. Food was excellent, location was beautiful in a quiet and authentic place. Joel helped us to experience the authentic Bali, walks in the rice field, temples, waterfall. We have felt like at home.

Staying at Surya Shanti was the best part of my Bali holidays. This place is nested in the most beautiful and peaceful part of Bali. The welcome services included drinks, foot massage and a chat with owner Joel. The staff was very helpful with all enquiries. The Suite rooms had great Balinese decor, were expansive in size. The terraces, infinity swimming pools and restaurant all had great views of the valley and mountains. Restaurant had great meal menu with very reasonable prices. Every service was excellent and i would love to visit this place again

A Nightmare Stay – Dangerous, Unhygienic, and a Complete Lack of Empathy My wife and I were traveling in Bali with our 9-month-old daughter, hoping for a few peaceful days in Sidemen. We booked Surya Shanti Villa expecting a calm, safe, and family-friendly stay. Unfortunately, what happened during our stay turned into every parent’s worst nightmare. ⸻ The Medical Emergency – 6 January On 6 January, our 9-month-old daughter became acutely ill immediately after consuming chicken served at the hotel. Within a short time, she developed severe projectile vomiting, followed by profuse diarrhea, high fever, and rapid dehydration. This was not a mild stomach upset or the typical “Bali Belly” that many travelers joke about — this was a severe, acute gastrointestinal illness in an infant, and her condition deteriorated frighteningly fast. She required emergency medical care, intravenous fluids, and she remains hospitalized under pediatric care. Watching your baby become critically ill like this is every parent’s worst nightmare. This has been an extremely traumatic experience for us as parents. Our infant child became critically ill while we were guests at this property, and she had not eaten food anywhere else prior to the onset of symptoms. Medical investigations and laboratory testing have confirmed a severe acute gastrointestinal infection, and she is still receiving inpatient treatment. Regardless of the final microbiological classification, the fact remains that a 9-month-old baby became seriously ill immediately after being served food at this hotel. ⸻ Remote Location and Emergency Transport Failure Because the hotel is extremely remote, there were no taxis available. It took approximately 40 minutes for a staff member to arrange transport. During that time, our daughter became weaker and barely responsive.

Perfect for anyone looking for peace, nature, and a true sense of disconnect. It’s a family-run hotel, and that really makes the difference: the hospitality feels genuine, with great attention to detail and so much care. What stays with you is the feeling that you truly belong there… for me, it became “home.” I would recommend it without a second thought, and it’s one of the main reasons I’m already thinking of coming back to Bali next year.
