Overall, a warm, comfortable cottage with a wonderful host

My sister and I stayed here over the Christmas period and had a really lovely time. The cottage was warm and cosy, with the bedrooms downstairs where it stayed cooler – perfect for sleeping. The beds were so comfortable, and the winter bedding made it a real treat to settle in at night. We were greeted with some really thoughtful festive touches: 3 Christmas trees, a welcome note, a bottle of wine and biscuits, which made it feel extra special arriving at Christmas. Karen was an outstanding host. Anything we needed, she dealt with quickly and kindly – she was incredibly accommodating and even brought a kitchen knife over on Christmas Eve when we realised we didn’t have one. The TV isn’t a smart TV, so we bought a Fire Stick during our stay, and Karen very generously reimbursed us for it so it could be left for future guests. If anyone staying here has any issues at all, I would absolutely recommend speaking to Karen – she couldn’t have been more helpful.

The only downside was parking. While it is mentioned in the property description that there’s no parking directly outside, in practice it was a tricky as the neighbouring properties parked out side, which made loading and unloading the car difficult at times (bearing how much you bring for self catering).

Shimmering Lakes and winding stone path

The entire place were clean, beds are comfortable, and basic things that we need are available. Wifi is fast. Fantastic holiday for the whole family. Karen is attentive and can be contacted anytime. Thank you.

Some pots and pans are rusty. Some kitchen utensils are slightly melted. Which is easy to resolve actually.

Great Little Cottage

Great little cottage with the Lake District right on your doorstep! Also great for a staycation if you have young kids. And the owners are lovely and friendly. We will certainly be back!

Not what I was expecting

Location was great .

The pictures that sell the cottage are not accurate. Also far from luxurious very nice BUT.The down stairs was damp curtain rails hanging off mould around the bath. Absolutely no views out of any window unless you like looking at brick walls and fences. Parking outside is a no no and if you try to park outside property neighbours are on you.The oven hob is broken with a very sharp edge work tops have broken edges walls dirty around light switches dirty. There is a small bench outside if you like sitting next to wheelie bins and looking at the side of the house opposite. Asked to strip beds when you leave ???

Ideal if you drive and only two people.

The owners had made good use of every bit of space and there was nearly everything you could need for a few days away.

It was far too small for four adults, beds only a double so cramped when used to a kingsize, no tvs in bedrooms, no back garden/yard to sit outside on a nice evening, the local pubs weren't suitable, plus the seating in the house was enough for four adults without sitting on top of each other unfortunately . Also ONE towel each provided, no cupboard of fresh towels.

Comfortable affordable stay for 4

The cottage was very comfortable, both the beds and the sofas. We found the kitchen and bathroom facilities good and the heating was really efficient on colder evenings. There was also a good amount of space for 4 people. Overall it was good value for money and the rooms were really nice for a couple of nights stay!

We did struggle to find appropriate parking. We also did run out of toilet roll on the third day and there was no washing powder supplied for the washing machine. We also immediately found that the sofas had not been vacuumed behind/inbetween as there was food there.

A fantastic hideaway close to the lakes

We just spent our honeymoon here at Red Rose Cottage. It is a lovely little two bedroomed property in a really pretty little village within shouting distance of the lakes and all they have to offer. The coast is only 15 minutes drive away, well worth a visit for a beautiful sunset. The hosts, Karen and Jamie, were lovely throughout and couldn't do enough for us. The place is clean, warm, and comfortable with everything you need already supplied. The location is very peaceful with walks along the river bank only a stones throw away. Would highly recommend for a couple or small family looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Cosy home from home cottage

Lovely home from home cottage. I was very impressed with the added extras, eg, cleaning products, tea coffee, and sugar. Very comfortable beds. Hosts lovely, we arrived earlier, so I messaged to ask if we could go into the property early. A lovely message was sent back ☺️

WiFi wasn't great. Although I expected this due to the location, the kids weren't impressed.

We settled into the cottage happily for a very pleasant visit to the Lake District.

The peace and quiet. The hot water and heating (we didn’t use it much) were both excellent. The cottage had everything we needed, and is comfortable. The village is friendly.

We had to work hard at the parking. We did always find a place, thankfully my son is good at these things.

The location was good with easy access onto A66 route between Keswick and Whitehaven, so good location for both the coast and lakes. Great Broughton appeared to be a friendly village

Car Parking, Finding parking spot on Main road sometimes difficult. Unfortunately no parking adjacent to Red Rose Cottage. However we managed the situation and it didn’t cause problems or detract from the overall impression of the property

Nice little house in good location, but check out the photos of the stairs before you book.

Very well fitted up small house in an excellent location to explore the northwestern lakes and Cumbrian coast. The owners were very helpful when we managed to loose the house key.

In spite of everything I have said about what was good, we wouldn't go back because there is no handrail on the top section of the stairs. I have a bad knee, and I seriously need a rail in case it 'clicks'. I was terrified every time I had to go down.

Lovely place to stay but they need to sort the oven out, for a week you dont always want to go out

Cottage very clean and neighbors very good

The oven set fire alarms off when ever you used it so had to eat out every night and the local pub was closed , opened Friday Saturday and Sunday lunch time, would have been nice to come back in a evening and have a meal with a drink, could not have a cooked breakfast so made it more expensive. Cockermouth most places closed on Mondays and Tuesdays for food. In high season?? And it rained, dont mind that but a week far to long
