I arrived early and the staff let me drop my bags in my room before check in. I liked the heated pool, it was a nice way to escape the flies. The location was very close to the lake and to town for food. The room was fairly cool when you had the fan running for a while.
The sheets didn't look very clean. The fan could be very noisy. There must have been a tin roof over the bathroom as when it rained it was very loud, and there was no way to secure the door shut from the bedroom side.

Location, close to centre
The door cannot be locked properly. Lots of mosquito 🦟
The light is so dim, I cannot see my foot. Not comfortable at all.

Situated right by the lake side the value for money for the vibe was next level, my room is literally cheaper than the entrance to the hot spring and this place has its own hot spring and I got to go in it every night and morning, staff where very friendly and helpful, I stayed in the dormitory and the bed was very comfy!
Nothing it was great!

Very good location, nice view from the swimming pool, confortable dormitory. I saw that is the past people complained about the cleanliness but when I came in October 2025 it was clean, in a good condition, with fresh towels and sheets. The location was perfect to do the Batur Mount sunrise. I was fully satisfied, very good for the price.

The staff was friendly
We woke up with a cockroach in our bed, no airco, the floor was dirty and the beads well with some stain on it, the shower had no pressure, it was not really good to stay and not valuable

The volcano pool
The toilet no bidet

Cute place in a great location. There is a natural, 24-hour hot spring in the back which was lovely to hang out in during sunset. There is a waterpark with water sports a few-minutes walk away. Lovely staff and breakfast was great!

Pool facing Mt Batur
Poorly manages facilities. Toilet bidet was leaking whole time and couldn't be used, as no water came out for washing.
Walls are thin, noise from other rooms very loud.
Beware of house flies, they humans and I mean alot.
Wish someone would come by Kintamani and sell the blue light traps for flies.
No kettle to boil water (had to pay for boiled water to make own tea)
Good view from the pool, however the bamboo blockade to other hotel was too high thus blocking the sunrise view. If it was sawn lower by 1/2 a meter and it doesn't affect other hotel's privacy, this would have been priceless.
Pic is a great view, sorry half a great view.

Volcano Living offers a unique and scenic escape in the heart of Kintamani, ideal for a short leisure or family trip. The surrounding mountain air and peaceful ambiance set a relaxing tone for the night, and for its price point, the accommodation delivers the essentials. The staff member who eventually greeted us was courteous, though appeared drowsy — perhaps understandably, given the late hour — and offered minimal explanation about how the room or facilities worked unless asked directly.
We arrived shortly after 9 PM and were left waiting at the entrance gate for several minutes before anyone came to meet us. Upon arrival, the staff casually mentioned that “others don’t like staying up late,” which felt unprofessional. The hot water system required about 15 minutes of running before it began working — which, in Kintamani’s freezing night air and water, felt like a very long wait. Inside the room, cleanliness was an issue: my light-colored socks turned grey after walking around, suggesting the floors hadn't been properly cleaned. The wooden room door couldn’t close tightly, leaving a visible gap that compromised privacy. Meanwhile, the bathroom door lock was stiff and rusty, making it hard to use.
Another note for light sleepers: several dogs in the area barked intermittently throughout the night until early morning. Personally, I wasn’t bothered by it, but it may disturb those who are sensitive to noise.
While the stay was budget-friendly and met basic needs, improved cleanliness, better communication from staff, and minor maintenance fixes would go a long way in enhancing the overall experience.

location
As someone who lives in Bali, has travelled extensively across Asia, and typically stays in budget-friendly accommodations, I know how to manage expectations. I also understand that you don’t need luxury to have a great stay – just basic care, cleanliness, and comfort. Unfortunately, Volcano Livings in Batur misses the mark on all of these.
The location is undeniably great, but that’s where the positives end. It’s clear the property is neglected. The building is in poor condition and seems to be falling apart. There’s visible mould coming from behind the walls, which raises serious health concerns. Cleanliness was shocking – dirty bedsheets that barely cover the mattress, grime in the bathroom, and a general feeling that nothing has been properly maintained in a long time. There was also little to no water pressure during my stay.
What really stood out, though, was the complete lack of care from the owners. Hospitality isn’t just about the building – it’s about how guests are made to feel. Here, it felt like the owner had checked out a long time ago. The place lacks even the most basic warmth or effort, and it left a really uncomfortable impression.
I’ve stayed at several other places in this area at a similar price point, and I can confidently say there are much better options around – clean, well-maintained, and run by people who clearly care.
I don’t enjoy writing negative reviews, but I couldn’t in good conscience recommend Volcano Livings to anyone. Unless the property changes hands or undergoes serious renovation and management overhaul, I would strongly suggest looking elsewhere.

The restaurant has amazing view and the food is very tasty. The rooms smelled a bit musty and there was mold in the bathroom. Also no water pressure. Staff was very kind

Staff were kind and helpful with booking for trekking and taxi to our next destination.
Worst place we have been in Bali.
First; there's millions of flies everywhere you go in this village. We lost our appetite when we went out trying to eat dinner.
Second; the bath/toilet seems to be leaking, and it smells so disgusting we had a hard time trying to sleep, 1 of us couldn't sleep at all before trekking up to Mount Batur. There's a big hole over the door to the bath so we couldn't do anything with the smells.. We booked for 2 days but checked out right away after the trekking.

Great location, very close to the hiking meeting point. The room was okay but the view in the restaurant and the hot spring pool was great additional facilities. Thank you
The room could be cleaner and the bathroom door in the shared bedroom was broken.

Only thing good about this property was that it was close to the starting point for the hike….
Didn’t look anything like the booking photos…pool is randomly placed, not even close to most of the rooms. Staff doesn’t know much english. Lots of noises at night, didn’t sleep at all also because i don’t think the sheets have ever been washed. Bed is very squeaky. Bathroom does not have a shower, just a bucket and a cup… flies everywhere in this area. Also keep in mind you can’t have car services pick you up in this location so you have to get an overpriced taxi. Be careful of your tour guides if you’re doing the hike… choose wisely on where you are getting the tour package from, we witnessed one tour guide come up and kick a man very hard and get into a fight with him. Overall, only stay here if you’re doing the hike, please please please do not bother staying here for leisure, nothing to do. Me and my friend felt unsafe as two college girls staying here. Would not recommend.

One of the staff members was friendly.
The whole place is run down and needs a makeover. For the price I expected much better. The walls are paper thin. The parking is not right next to your room. Thr bathroom was not clean.

I like the view from the small pool near the parking area. The pool is just everage but you will directly see the Mount and Mt Batur Lake from the pool. The staff is very friendly. All women. They have a multi tasking role such as a bell girls, receptionists, cleaning services, etc The room is clean. Breakfast is free and there is various options of basic menu for breakfast.
The room is clean although the interior of the room is so average. To increase the customer experience, I think the room need to be renovated with minimalist modern design which is simple, affordable, and increase the customer experience of the room.

The location is good, you can enjoy their pool to see the lake and mountain’s view. And they also have the restaurant, I had eaten there for 2 times, the food is good and the price is fair also.

Excellent location for climbing Mt Batur. V friendly and helpful owner and staff. Walking distance to hot springs. Beautiful view of mountains and Lake from upstairs restaurant. Cheap accommodation and meals. Exceptional and culturally knowlegable driver Mudi.
Thin blanket. We were cold. We should have asked for more bedding. Hand held shower in toilet somewhat off putting.
