I like local position and host

We were the only guests at the guesthouse, so had the full top floor to ourselves. It's a traditional style guesthouse with a kotatsu table for dining and futons for bedding. There was also another bedroom with bunk beds and a separate kitchen. Masayuki was a delightful host and provided us with some fresh, local fruit. The location is about a 5 minute drive out of Nikko, and backs onto a forest which gives a great sense of seclusion, even though there are many houses nearby.

Masayuki was an excellent host and he made us feel very welcome in his home. This was the best place we stayed in our two weeks in Japan. It was a lovely experience staying in a Japanese house with a more traditional layout. We had the whole Upstairs to ourselves so there was plenty of space. The rooms were comfortable and the bedding more comfortable than futon’s usually are. The place was very clean and in a lovely quiet location out of town and next to a stream. We used the kitchen upstairs to make a simple dinner for ourselves one night as restaurants in Nikko can close quite early. We were also able to use the washer/dryer to do our laundry.

Not a criticism but I’d recommend hiring a car if you’re staying here as it’s a bit out of the way and you probably don’t want to walk around at night here as there are bears in the area. The bonus is hiring a car in Japan is easy and it gives you more freedom to explore the beautiful locations around Nikko.

A wonderful, cozy little house with everything you could need, and a river right outside the windows! We had the entire second floor to ourselves and felt completely at home. There were three fully equipped rooms, which made it easy to work in the evenings and relax afterward. We were traveling by car, so getting to the park was very convenient, though public transportation might be a bit tricky.
