Alakol-Jyrgalan Guest House

This is a great guest house. We really enjoyed our stay here. We had a really nice comfortable room with beautiful local decor and excellent Kyrgyz home cooking. Best meals we had in Kyrgyzstan ! The Guest house is the perfect location for great day walks and the start of trekking in the mountains. Our hosts were so friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

We had the new bedrooms and they were spacious clean and nice. The hot water didn’t work while we were there. We had to use the hot water showers in another room.

Nothing. It was probably the best place to stay before we started our multi day hike in Jyrgalan.

Jyrgalan is right at the foot of the mountains, and there are no paved roads in the village, so we honestly weren’t expecting such a comfortable guesthouse. We booked a double room with a private bathroom, and it was really cosy, with a warm shower and everything we needed. The room was well thought out and had a very welcoming feel. It also opened onto a common area where you could hang out and meet other guests, which really gave the place the vibe of a mountain refuge. There was also free water and tea available in the dining area, which was much appreciated after a long day of hiking! The bus station is around a 20-minute walk away, which was convenient for us. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised by how comfortable and cosy this place was. A great base for exploring Jyrgalan and the surrounding mountains.

our room was relatively new and well decorated. They are clean and meals were decent. It's good acoomodation for a relatively rural village.

Firstly, its not 'mountain view' as advertised. Both room windows directly face another building, and only 1 room gets the view at a specific angle. Location is not easy to find as the whole area is currently under heavy construction. We would have appreciated if they warned us before our travel period and helped us the new navigation route (gps routes no longer worked correctly). More importantly, we booked Alakol thinking that they are experienced and can be trusted with hosting tours since they are related to 'Destination Jrygalan'. But we're a little disappointed by some unprofessionalism. We booked a horse trekking tour, which proceeded despite the rain the previous night, even after I had specifically checked with the guesthouse to confirm that it was safe to go ahead. I even reminded him that we were new to this when made to sign the indemnity forms. At the start of the trek, however, there was no proper safety briefing or a quick lesson, leaving us to figure out what to do with minimal guidance. There were just 3 brief commands, no trial, and we were asked to start the trek immediately. The horse trekking guide was also unable to speak English, and would periodically whip our horses from behind, causing them to become agitated and unpredictable. Unfortunately, one of us fell and had a full fracture on the hand, and had to trek down the mountain alone with a dangling broken arm. While they were genuinely apologetic, provided a town nurse and allowed us to cancel the next night, we were still charged full price for the horse trek. We again had trouble reaching the nearest city hospital ourselves due to the blocked roads and were trapped in the village for a considerable time. Again, there was no consideration in helping with the village navigation. We cannot fully blame anyone for this accident, but I think there are definitely areas that can be done slightly better in terms of safety protocol, transparency, awareness and...
