We had a wonderful time at Umai House. Erica is very welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. The family are lovely. The beds are also very comfortable.

Very modern alpine-style wooden rooms. Extremely comfortable beds - a very big plus for Karakol, since you need good sleep when coming from hikes. Located a few minutes walk from the area where most backpackers meet and have a drink.
I would suggest that owners put a small 1-2 page document in the room explaining the basics regarding check-in/check-out, payment type since there is no formal reception.

The guest house was very clean and beautifully decorated in a good location. Host and her family were very welcoming despite limited English. While this isn’t a place that greatly facilitates meeting others it is a perfect stay to get to know Karakol.
