Overall, we had a pleasant stay at Karagat Hotel. The hotel is in a great central location, with easy access to restaurants, cafés, bars, and souvenir shops, making it very convenient for exploring Karakol.
The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We also requested assistance in arranging transport to Altyn Arshan, and the hotel organised it at a competitive market price without overcharging, which we appreciated.
However, I would not recommend the driver assigned to us for the Altyn Arshan trip (his name was Islaam). On our return journey, we politely requested a stop at a nearby restaurant that was only about 900 metres from the hotel. The driver was rude and demanded extra payment for this short detour, which left a disappointing impression.
The breakfast served at the hotel was very good, with a nice selection of food.
My sincere recommendation to the hotel management is to consider providing a takeaway breakfast option for guests who need to leave early. On our last day, we had to depart at 7:00 AM to catch our flight. Since our booking included breakfast, we requested a simple packed breakfast with items such as bread, butter, jam, cakes, and fruit. We understand this was an additional request, but takeaway breakfasts or "breakfast on the go" are quite common in many hotels, especially for guests with early departures.
Unfortunately, we were asked to pay 800 soms for the packed breakfast. At that price, we could have easily purchased similar items from nearby shops. I hope the management considers handling such genuine requests more thoughtfully in the future. During our travels to countries such as Kenya and others, hotels have always been accommodating by providing a simple takeaway breakfast or even coffee to go for guests leaving early.
Overall, Karagat Hotel offers a comfortable stay with a great location, clean rooms, friendly staff, and excellent breakfast. With a more guest-friendly approach towards early departure breakfast requests and greater care in selecting transport partners, it would provide an even better experience.
