Excellent location, well equipped, spacious apartment.

The unit was spacious and kitchen had everything you need to make a meal. Unit was very clean. I loved the lake views from balcony and both bedrooms. Easy walk to ferry dock. Host was very easy to communicate with and met us personally and gave us helpful orientation to the unit. I appreciate how he explained the complex recycling system that is dissimilar to the one in my home country.

Overall we had an excellent stay but guests should be aware that the walk from the train station has a number of stairs and there are 3 flights up to the unit, so this is not a place for people with lots of luggage or bad knees. Also, unit was quite warm in summer, so don't stay here if you are the type that needs AC. Lastly, 9 am check out was a bit tough for us.

the place had infestations of ants when we arrived. we even found them in our suitcases. once we told the owner, they did clean the place and put some ant bait which helped the situation a bit.

The location was great - close to the train and the ferries. Although in summer season - they are extremely busy and the town is extremely busy.

Arriving at the property wasn't a great experience. The directions for location was't great. I was asked to give an exact time of arrival - which I did. But then had to wait outside the gate for Pietro to arrive - only for a short while. We didn't feel very welcome and the whole arrival experience made us feel a little on edge. Once we were there for a night, we fell more relaxed and Varenna is beautiful and the apartment being close to everything was great. The check out time was 9am - which again wasn't ideal. We are more used to check out being 10am/11am or even 12pm. We could have left our bags with Pietro and his family, but in the end we decided just to leave at 9am.
