Lovely room but some new policies made us use only our room, resulting in us finding other places for food and drink.

We stayed in the Stag room which was spacious, bed was super comfy, there were robes provided which is always a treat and we opted to have the roll top bath. Parking was free and convenient. Location was great.

Strictly no early check ins as we found out. We arrived at about 2:10ish, asked to check in early and were told to park and the lady at reception did sort of wave us off saying “we will see you at 3” meaning no we can’t accommodate you now. Fine, but it was a bit rude. We decided to go to another pub for a drink whilst we waited instead of staying at the bar there. Having read the reviews on here, we were expecting a continental breakfast to be included. Apparently this is no longer the case, and is only complementary if booked direct. We decided to find somewhere else in the town instead to paying the additional price. We don’t want anyone else to be caught out like us.

Very quirky if you choose the top bedroom which is classed as a small single.

Location was great for looking around the town as very central. The top attic room was nice and quiet and I loved that. Located at the back of the hotel on a floor of its own. Continental breakfast was fine and included in the price. Parking was convenient in the private car park just a short walk from the pub. I liked the quirkiness of the room as I can guarantee that it is totally unique and like nothing else found anywhere! The bed was very comfortable which was a big plus.

The room lacked some basic facilities such as even a chair. Sit on the bed or the floor were your options. The blinds didn’t work on the window which was overlooked and were jammed in the open position. The large porthole in the outside wall inside the shower may not be to everyone’s taste especially as it was around chest level or lower for some people. The kettle was very tricky to use as there was no extension lead provided and the short lead couldn’t reach the nearest socket. So you had to put it on your tiny bedside cabinet to reach any socket. The slope of the bedroom ceiling descends to just 2 foot from the floor at one point which ensures you have to crawl underneath to reach sockets very inconveniently placed there. Just a few coat hangers on a rail had to suffice as a wardrobe substitute which was not ideal as I had my wedding suit and outfit with me.

Location, nice bed linen. The building is beautiful and a superb location. The bar area is the best and the staff are accommodating. The food is often good with an interesting menu.

I’ve stay in various rooms. The bed are comfortable but some of the rooms decor could do with refreshing. The prices have almost doubled, understandable yet the rooms are starting to appear tired. The breakfast staff can be a tad unfriendly.

It was our favourite room during our 4 week trip! It was clean, cozy, comfortable and the staff were so accommodating! They held our luggage as we arrived hours before our check in. We also had our best meal in their restaurant. We loved the location too.

Lovely, cosy stay! We would return!

We loved our stay. The hotel is in a great location in Stow, perfectly placed to explore the Cotswolds. We were pleasantly surprised by our room and how spacious it was. The bed was incredibly comfy! Both me and my partner said it was the most comfortable bed we’ve ever slept in. There is a nice continental breakfast included in the price with a decent selection. I liked the inclusion of vegan yoghurt and lovely fresh pastries. We didn’t have cooked breakfast but saw other tables have it and it looked nice.

The available parking is quite limited. There is a small area behind the hotel which fits maybe 6 cars, no bays. You don’t know if it’s full until you drive into it and see. You can park in the market square but this gets busy and isn’t free parking all day. That being said, we did manage to park throughout our stay and it wasn’t too much of an issue. Tables a little bit too close together in the breakfast room/restaurant - but appreciate it is a fairly small premises.

Boutique accom in Stow

Our boutique hotel bedroom was quirky, beautifully presented and oh so comfy with lots of beautiful touches included. We ate at the pub and the food/service was great - as was the lovely continental breakfast. Stay here, I'm sure you would not be disappointed. Location brilliant on the Town Square, we arrived later in the afternoon and parking was easy/convenient.

Lovely comfy room.

Ground floor, next to the main road. Breakfast is disappointing; also Cooked Breakfast not included in the price as it used to be. Staff doesn’t seem to care a lot about providing an excellent customer service experience. Everything seems rushed.

Comfortable stay at The Stag.

Lovely old Inn on the square in Stow. Very cosy. Our room was small but fine with plenty of storage. And a large bathroom up 3 steps. The buffet breakfast was included but if you wanted anything from the cooked menu, you pay extra. We didn’t eat in the evening so can’t comment on the restaurant food.

Bad lighting in the bedroom to see to do make up.

Stylish Cotswold Experience

The welcome, once we'd found the reception desk, was excellent. We were shown to our room and features were explained. The room was well-equipped, the bed comfortable. The bathroom (shower only) was excellent. We were able to park right outside the hotel, which helped. Excellent dinner and breakfast in the in-house restaurant.

Our room was on the ground floor, so a bit noisy late at night when people were exiting or standing around the pub entrance. Nothing serious.

Booked last minute. Great room, very comfortable bed. The shower was one of the best I’ve used in a hotel. Fresh milk for tea in the room in the morning, sooo much better than UHT milk…small thing but for a morning tea lover it was a great touch. We had dinner in the restaurant and it was fab. Ham, egg and chips, easy I guess but eggs were runny, ham thick and tasty and the chips amazing 🤩

Beware of excessive surcharge if you have dogs

Lovely location very old pub full of character

The £15 per dog per night surcharge was not advertised and is very steep. We have never been charged such a high amount for staying with our 2 dogs and this would put us off booking again. Happy to pay a surcharge for them but not £60 for 2 nights.

Lovely place to stay.

Very quirky. Lovely place to stay. Central in the market square and an ideal base if you are visiting the area.

Evening meal wasn't the best and very pricey. One of our meals had an almost deisal taste suggesting they don't use fresh oil when cooking their fish and then using same oil to drizzle over accompanying veg. We did point this out to them but this was after we had paid. I didn't realise until later on after paying the bill they added on a service charge. This should have been optional. Parking was difficult and the road has very large pot holes, which needs to be attended to.

Disappointing

Location decor of the room.

Stay was disappointing. We stayed two nights spending £400 advertised as Bed and Breakfast. Breakfast was disappointing with a continental with a sad spread. It was one way to capitalise as anything cooked was charged. The staff on day 1 of check in at dinner was not the best in particular one lady who was not pleasant nor helpful. Sullen and rude was one way to describe this staff. Menus were forgotten requests for things were forgotten. The prices were very expensive. £12 for a starter!! Now if it was worth it I guess we can justify. It wasn’t. All in all food was a big let down at the place expensive with food that doesn’t match the cost. The other thing that let the place down was the cleanliness in particular the shower cubicle. With dark tiles you could see caked dirt at the bottom and whilst having a shower bits of the dirt started coming off. Disgusting!

My wife has had new knees and has difficulty with stairs. All rooms are reached by stairs which was a challenge. The bathroom is a shower over the bath - beautiful but a little challenging if you have limited movement.

Lovely old hotel but room for practical improvement

Room size, dog-friendly, restaurant food (sunday roast exceptional) and service, free parking, location.

1) Key didnt work for outside door. Ended up locked out of the hotel 6am to 7am without my phone while walking the dog. Please sort the Doe room external key out. 2) A room fan and lower tog duvet would have been useful. 3) Maybe rethink dog frienfly rooms being on the third floor.
