Great location, wonderful landscaping- unique integration of the resort in the surrounding nature. Beautiful accommodation (villa with two bedrooms). Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Butler Shehan and our waiter Dilshan proofed to be exceptionally competent. The great variety of animals on the premises was breathtaking. A nightly encounter with one of the larger crocodiles literally took our breath away.

Food was good but the chef seemed at times to be a bit timid with the application of herbs and spices.

My recent stay at Water Garden Sigiriya was, unfortunately, a bit of a mixed bag. The resort has so much potential, but some key areas fell short of my expectations for a five-star hotel. The Good The most remarkable aspect of the hotel is its stunning location and property. The grounds are absolutely beautiful, and the breathtaking view of Lion's Rock from the hotel is truly magnificent. The staff were all friendly and welcoming, and our butler, Dilmith, was fantastic—he was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. I also highly recommend taking advantage of the hotel's tours. We went on two, and they were incredible. Our naturalist, Tharindu, was knowledgeable and passionate, making the tours both educational and enjoyable. They were definitely worth the value.

The Bad My biggest disappointment was the food. It was inconsistent and nowhere near the quality you'd expect from a five-star establishment. The menu is far too large, which seems to affect the quality of the dishes. For the first two days, we tried the international options and found them to be quite average. On the last two days, we stuck to the Sri Lankan and Asian dishes, which were much better but still not exceptional. I strongly believe the hotel should consider a smaller, more focused menu with consistently excellent dishes. Another issue was the pool bar service, which was almost nonexistent. We often found ourselves waiting for a long time, and sometimes no one came to take our order at all. Additionally, the main restaurant was filled with flies. While I understand that insects are a given in this kind of location, I don't expect them to be inside an air-conditioned restaurant. This is something management needs to address. Lastly, some of the towels we were given were in poor condition, which, while not a major issue, is something I wouldn't expect at a luxury hotel.
