Maapagala Resort Sigiriya

The Location of the Resort is very perfect especially from the Sigiriya Lion Rock. The staff are also very nice, kind and professional, very big and clean rooms as well as a nice swimming pool.

The staff were polite and tried to be helpful when issues were raised. After I reported a serious problem with the first room, they did move me to another room and applied a small reduction, charging me for a smaller category. The location is convenient for visiting Sigiriya and the surroundings are peaceful.

The initial room had a very strong sewage smell coming from the bathroom, which was overwhelming and genuinely made me feel sick. I was told this was due to nearby paddy fields, but the smell was clearly coming from a drain/trap issue, not the surroundings. This is something that needs to be properly fixed, not explained away. Although I was moved to another room and given a small reduction, this situation should not occur in the first place. Wi-Fi was very slow and unreliable in the evenings (approximately 7–10pm). Breakfast was provided without any choice. While acceptable, this should be clearer in advance, as some guests may expect basic options.
