The Rose & Crown York

We have stayed here many times. The location is great with some nice restaurants nearby. The pub itself is lovely too. The breakfast is always lovely. Freshly cooked to order The lady serving was friendly & attended to us with a smile & got us everything we required.

When we arrived the lady behind the bar simply said 'Your rooms not ready' !! no hello or nice greeting or smile. We left our bags & came back later to another lady who was helpful. The room was very tired looking definitely in need of a refurbished. The bed was not comfortable but I know that's a personal choice. The lighting in the bathroom was very poor brighter bulb definitely needed. We were at the back overlooking the garden but there's an extractor fan nearby which was very noisey all night so we didn't sleep well at all & we were there 2 nights. The breakfast room is used for the pub restaurant & on our first morning there was food under our table so obviously hadn't been cleaned. Coffee cups were also stained. We were really disappointed with this visit. Certainly not the place it used to be

Excellent breakfast, nice size room and perfect location for going into York town centre. About 10 min walk to shops.

Room faced busy road, but to be fair it was very hot when we stayed so windows were open during the night. And bathroom a bit of mould around bath/ shower, needs a little TLC. But overall a good room.

Staff were very informative, polite and helpful. Hotel was only a short walk from city centre. Good size car park. Room was clean and tidy, and there was a tasty breakfast to set us up for the day. Looking forward to staying here again.

Due to location there was road noise so will be requesting a room at the rear of hotel next time.

Spacious room

Breakfast and dinner took ages to arrive (45 to 50 minutes)and portions were miserly a thimble of beans with your breakfast it’s on a main road with lots of traffic and constant emergency sirens throughout every night and day we stayed . No iron in the room and it stated there was one ,asked for it and it never arrived. Jam and Marmalade was laid out on the table but no toast option on the menu . When we arrived there was a dog biscuit on the couch in the room and a used bit of blue roll on the floor so not a good start.
