The Rose & Crown York

The pub itself is traditional and welcoming with the bonus that their food was lovely. Their pies were delicious and I would definitely recommend their haddock and extra large chips - beautiful! The free parking was perfect for us as we were on a touring type holiday. The bed was very comfortable and we both slept well .

Just a few things. Access to the room from the car park with our luggage was a mini adventure, no lift exists and the route is upstairs and a bit narrow and twisty. The room is basic and dated but perfectly functional for a 2 day stopover. Same with the toilet shower room - lighting could be improved a lot and the extractor fan is really noisy- but everything did work. I was probably expecting a bit better as it was not an inexpensive choice.

Dinner was fantastic. One of thebest pies I have had for a long time. Other half had the fish & chips and she was equally impressed. Good options for breakfast. Staff were genuinely friendly, helpful and knowledgable

Bit of a creaky bed but couldnt be helped. If you want peace and quiet this isnt for you as it is on a busy road just outside the City walls. Easy access to the city itself was what we wanted and didnt really care about the outside noise

Breakfast and dinner took ages to arrive (45 to 50 minutes)and portions were miserly a thimble of beans with your breakfast it’s on a main road with lots of traffic and constant emergency sirens throughout every night and day we stayed . No iron in the room and it stated there was one ,asked for it and it never arrived. Jam and Marmalade was laid out on the table but no toast option on the menu . When we arrived there was a dog biscuit on the couch in the room and a used bit of blue roll on the floor so not a good start.
