Kyoto Villa Chiyotsuru

The location is excellent, in the center of the city with public transport very close (buses and subway trains at Omiya station). The property is in a small side alley, which makes the stay very calm and quiet. Many restaurants nearby, and the typical kombini for quick food and necessities. Easy access to the main historical sites of Kyoto. The atmosphere of the house, notably the upper floor, is exceptional. You can have the same feeling of a more expensive ryokan, moreover the space is considerable for a japanese home. We were two, but the apartment can easily fit 4 or 5. Kitchen perfectly furnished and useable. Bathroom/toilet facilities up to japanese standards. Nice combination of lighting and wide-screen projector tv, for relaxing in the main living space after a long day of sightseeing.

Very little to criticize :) only maybe to fix the handle in the handrail at the top of the stairs... if you wake up at night to go see the toilet you have to be very careful in climbing down :))

Very conveniently located - just half a block to the metro and many bus lines as well as convenience stores! Was fun to stay in a traditional Japanese home with Tatami mats and futons.

Place wasn’t as clean as it should have been - mold in the shower, massive dust in the bathroom fan, broken railing on a very steep staircase.

My family and I (husband and two sons aged 19 and 21) loved our stay at Villa Chiyotsuru, a traditional 100 year old property, in April 2026. The day before we arrived, we were sent the security code for the property which made it really easy for us to access the villa. About an hour after we arrived, the manager came to go through all the little details of the property and gave us lots of tips for places to visit, restaurants, and transport options. It was wonderful, and so helpful. The futons were really comfortable and the doonas really warm. I was actually a bit worried I wouldn't like them but I was pleasantly surprised. The location was great, just a two minute walk to Omiya Station (for trains to Kawaramachi), the RANDEN to Arashiyama, and buses to everywhere (eg Kyoto Station, or TeamLab). There's a washing machine and dryer, which is really helpful, as well as an airconditioner which warmed up the house quickly.

We found the water heater for the shower a bit confusing, but we worked it out. I would recommend asking the manager to go through it with you when he's there. Also, it didn't bother us, but just be aware that the stairs to the second floor are quite steep.
