We love this traditional japanese townhouse a lot. We have great experience staying in a real old yet new (nicely renovated) japanese house. The house is very clean and centrally located in central that can walk to central shopping street. Great host and super helpful. A great place for accommodation not to be missed!

We stayed at the Hokomachi property during our visit to Kyoto. The staff were welcoming and kind, and helped us to orient ourselves to the property. They helped us to find places to eat, and figure out the best way to visit all of the tourist activities we wanted to see in our limited stay (1 full day, 2 nights). And, we learned how to brew matcha at the tea ceremony! That was really fun, because I use matcha at home but never knew how to mix it.
The property has really nice bathrooms with private indoor and outdoor baths that are peaceful.
The beds were also comfortable and the rooms were clean and welcoming. My favorite part was the living room - after staying in hotels for one week in Tokyo, it was nice for everyone to have a central area to spend time together and talk, eat meals, watch TV.
And the amenities are nice - coffee, tea, really cool mugs and antique dish ware.
All together a wonderful experience, peaceful quiet sleep area, in a safe part of the city. We unfortunately did not participate in the meals and I cannot speak to that aspect of the hotel.
