A beautiful and cosy property with a lovely Japanese interior. My husband and I went in the winter and we enjoyed being within walking distance of Nijo Castle and Nijo Station.
As we went in the winter, the heating was extremely important. On the first night, we felt the room heat up too much and were unable to sleep well, but the owner of the property immediately sent people down the next day to check on the unit and gave us detailed instructions on how to operate the heater which was great.
We also accidentally booked a day less than we needed but the owner made accommodations for us (albeit at a high fee due to the last minute nature of the booking), but we were thankful we wouldn’t need to go through the hassle of rebooking a different hotel for a single night.

Beautiful accommodation, especially the washroom. The location was good and near a market area. A variety of drinks were provided. They also had a lot of towels. The washing machine was easy to use and they provided laundry detergent pods. Sleeping on the tatami mat with the bedding was comfortable.
The front door has a crack when closed so some bugs came in. The mattress wasn't comfortable, because it wasn't an actual mattress.

The machiya is beautiful and comfortable. The neighborhood is quiet. The bath is exceptional.
