Unfortunately we would not recommend to stay at the George & Dragon, it was not good value for money and generally f

The property is in a good central location.

The rooms look nothing like the pictures and were very dated and unclean. Mould everywhere, dust everywhere and generally just not to standard at all. There were flies in the shower basin and a leaky toilet.

Never ever again. I would have been more comfortable on the bench outside and it would be cleaner

The room was filthy dirty, in a desperate need for decoration. Mould and spiders webs everywhere. No lampshades on lights. Dirty carpets, flaking paint off walls. Toilet was filthy, bathroom had mould everywhere. Walls were flaking wallpaper off and towel rails were ripped off walls. Towels that were supplied smelt really bad like that hadnt been washed in some time.

Book if you want to experience the 1990s

Ashbourne is lovely, the Georgie and Dragon pub is lovely. The people are lovely.... The George and Dragon as a hotel is essentially a time warp back to the 1990s..

The room, the bed, the mould, the dirt... It's just a bit of a hovel of a hotel. Last cleaned when John Major was prime minister and a pint cost you around £1.50. it's ok though. £80 a night is a bit steep though. £25 would be better...

The room was tiny on a slant away from windows. Out of date decor, grubby broken bathroom rail and bathroom door handle. The over all quality was poor. There were roadworks directly outside the window which ran the entire night so we left at 1.15 the second night as had no sleep

Room and especially the bathroom was quite sparse and snappy. Really basic mattress, dirty walls around sockets, plaster coming off the walls, mould stains in the showers. Quite small and no where to put a suitcase.

Refreshing, good value

Hotel doesn't do breakfast, but the cleaner advised Cafe Improptu, six minutes walk away which was excellent. Well done! Hotel evening dinner was large and delicious Comfy warm bed

Really enjoyable, every member of staff I encountered was really friendly and helpful.

This was accommodation only, no meals included. However, the pub downstairs served excellent, good value food and the service was second to none, everyone was so friendly and helpful. Than you.

The room would have benefitted from a lick of paint, but it was clean, comfy, well equipped and overlooked the market square, a great location.

great weekend away, let down by the room

the pub and staff were great, and the food and drinks excellent,

the room was very tired, and an incident with the toilet, that was not fixed down properly, caused water to go across the bathroom and onto the bedroom carpet, we did inform people who were very apologetic, but nothing was done to remedy the situation happening again, there were signs that this had happened before, as the carpet was badly stained

The staff was very friendly and helpful, the bar was good. Location excellent within Ashbourne.

Evening meal was excellent and could recommend eating in the hotel.

The rooms were very small and outdated. Requires renovation and modernising. We did notice that renovation was being undertaken on the out side of the hotel, hopefully this would be continued internally.

Towel rail falling off the wall. The toilet mascerator had loo roll stuffed in the top and kept going off during the night. Everything was very tired and needs attention. They were painting outside so had scaffolding…hopefully they will do work inside as well.

We visit here once a year from Berkshire and will continue to do so.

It's comfortable, ideally located for Alton Towers and the village and parks are really good. Parking nearby was convenient and the landlady was very friendly and the food was great!

Although not the fault of the hotel, the roadworks which I was told are there till October this year (2025) were hard to navigate even for the sat nav.

I requested a refund. I was unable to park because there was nowhere to park. The parking adjacent to the hotel had been closed. I was not informed and could find nowhere suitable to park. I found another hotel.

Disappointing overall, but the helpful and friendly staff and food made up for it.

The staff were all very friendly and the food served was well cooked and well presented.

There was no breakfast. The room was very small with only the bed to sit on. The hotel was right on a very busy corner with lorry’s passing non stop from about 4 in the morning. We were expected to go in and out via the fire exit stairs when the pub was shut. There was a glass throwing fight just over the road from the pub.

Disappointed with our stay but loved the area.

The location was lovely and was nice and quiet during the day. The member of staff was friendly who checked us in.

The rooms decor was very dated and dirty walls, the curtains didn't fit the windows properly, the door didn't feel very secure even when locked, the room was freezing cold even though there was a heater in there but was broken. The bed was very firm we both woke up very stiff. We had lots of noise, sirens and blue lights in the early hours of the morning right outside.

An amazing weekend in Ashbourne

So the room was clean, if dated, however we had everything we needed, a clean bed, tea & coffee, the shower could have done with being a bit warmer, but apart from that the room was ok. The staff went out of their way to accomodate, very friendly and helpful and the bar manager Sarah was a diamond! We will defitintely stay again at some point in the future. Very good food!

The Staff Are Doing Their Best

The food was exceptional. Good quality, Large portions. The lasagne in the photos was a requested half portion The staff were fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble.

The price was room only (not breakfast) so thought the price a little expensive. The rooms need upgrading. They look shabby but they are clean.

Nice towels. Received help with luggage. Good pillows and linnen. Liked the atmosphere.

Waterpressure poor. Showerdoors and toiletseat loose. Bathroom door did’t close. No toiletroll holder. Bed very hard.
