The Bell & Stuart House

Beautiful old quaint hotel covered in vine. The bar and restaurant are convenient. The room was stunning. Plenty of space, beautifully appointed, very clean.

Staff could have been more welcoming and our dining experience wasn’t the best.

The only disappointing part of our experience was the service around check-in and at The Bell bar on our first evening. The member of staff handling our check-in seemed rather tense, and we were essentially expected to find our accommodation — located around 300 metres away — using little more than the directions on a postcard. Fortunately, Natalia stepped in and was incredibly helpful; without her assistance, I genuinely doubt we would have found the room so easily. Our first evening at The Bell bar was unfortunately similar. After a long day of travelling, we stopped for a couple of beers. The blond bartender served us the first round, but despite there still being approximately 45 minutes until closing time, he declined to serve us a second beer, saying that he had already called last orders. Given that he knew we were hotel guests who had just arrived after a long journey, it felt neither particularly hospitable nor professional. That said, I would make a very clear distinction between the bar experience and the accommodation itself. The bar service left quite a lot to be desired, but the accommodation was absolutely exceptional. The room, its design and all the thoughtful little details were wonderful. Breakfast was also excellent, as was the food, and the morning team could not have been more charming, warm and attentive. They completely restored the sense of hospitality we had hoped for. So, in short: the accommodation, breakfast and morning team were outstanding; the evening bar experience unfortunately was not.

❌Bathroom was neglected re: decor . Very shaby for £195 per night. Such a let down as the bedroom was superb ❌Kettle in room full of water when we went to use. Gross!!! 🤮

Location was great and room was nice

We showed up at 3:35pm for our room that is supposed to be ready by 3pm on our booking , however our room was not finished once we arrived. The Stuart house / Bell was not easy to find where to go and we had to walk in and ask to find out where to park and where our actual room was. quite confusing.
