Avoca River Cabins

The location is beautiful and the staff were kind and friendly.

The unit we stayed in - Tree Tops - had a number of small issues. Individually they are almost not worth mentioning - a blocked sink, a fridge set so high it froze and ruined our food, and several other minor issues - but cumulatively it was frustrating and gave the impression of a lack of care in maintenance. The bottom line is that although the accommodation is described as "rustic", I have stayed in similar accommodation in other parts of the country, at the same price point, and had a better experience.

The view was excellent. Amazing jungle gym for the kids. Great swimming pool. Great location. Nice and quiet.

There was junk all around the unit. It looks like the cleaners just sweep everything onto the stoep and then off into the garden. The braai grid is in a bad condition and the braai itself needs attention. The kitchenette windows are moldy. The shower temperature is difficult to control.

Lovely staff, very welcoming, accommodating, efficient and friendly. Heater in room very welcome. Beds comfortable. Breakfast excellent.

Small gripes for a stay in the budget rooms of a lovely accommodation: Difficult to remedy but taking a shower made entire bathroom very wet with steam, due to small bathroom and very cold temperatures outside, despite window open. Also, being winter, there wasn't an area/lounge to relax in except our bedroom. Lovely area right outside our room but winter too cold to be outside in evening. I'm sure an upgraded room would fix this issue, so cannot blame establishment.

View and surroundings were lovely. Manager was very friendly and helpful.

No oven was a surprise. Wifi was absolutely terrible.
