Addo Good Hope Guest House

Location was good. The scented room was noticeable on arrival. Huge king size bed. Lovely views and sunrises (our room was East facing). Rooms were neat and clean. Fittings, appliances were high-end - mostly Woolworths. Ground coffee beans and plunger provided. The duvet and linen were excellent - Volpes and Woolworths. Towels were refreshed mid-stay. Room rates are affordable for South African residents.

No TV in room - the cable is there. No cupboards for clothes - a shelf rack was brought in. WiFi in room intermittent. No ice in tray in room fridge - should have been filled (found some in communal kitchen). No cutting knives in communal kitchen. No dishcloths / sponges / scourers to wash up - was supplied after requesting. Wood for braai was offered, but none brought. Arrived after requesting it. No bathroom light for two nights. It was replaced on day 3. No air-con, indoor fireplace or heater (it was snowing on the mountains). Staff were mediocre. Communal lounge doors jammed - needs readjusting. Citrus fruit were in season, falling off the trees - no one thought of putting a few lemons and oranges in a bowl for guests. No outdoor chairs and table to enjoy view from room veranda, only at the braai. Shower water pressure was very low - just a trickle. Hot water took long to come through. We had to ask for a lot of things which were basic and should be in place. I got the feeling no one cared - unfortunate, because the guest house offers huge potential. The luxury items available do not compensate for the missing basics. This property was carefully selected after assessing all possible properties in the area within the price range and completing a values table for each. The reviews were excellent, unfortunately my experience did not live up to the reviews.

Location. Close to Addo National Park and beautiful citrus farm. And the Jack Russels were a treat

The fact that there wasn’t any wardrobe to keep our clothes, no tv in the room, no big bin in the room as we had to use the small bin in the bathroom for everything
