The rooms were lovely. Food was great - we loved the breakfasts and the evening meals. Such a beautiful location. What was stand out was the friendliness of the staff. Could not have felt more welcome.

Wonderful stay in a friendly, hospitable country pub. Spacious, well-appointed rooms, cosy bar and friendly staff. Good food, good beer and just what a country pub stay should be.
Little to improve - just what a stay in a country pub should be like. Traffic noise in the morning (we had our window open), but mostly tractors and it got us up at a reasonable time for breakfast!

Beautiful hotel room was really lovely. Fantastic river and good for walks food ok not as good as we have had there before for some reason.
Staff reception I really don’t know what was going on really. Felt like we shouldn’t have been there like we were an inconvenience. Ok it was on a couple of days past new years. But really just no welcoming smile or conversation. Felt rushed out of restaurant even though I booked ages ago for 7.30. Batter on fish soggy. And in morning no toast with breakfast had to ask for some coffee cold. Just didn’t feel comfortable. Made me think we had done something wrong even though we hadn’t.

Lovely bar area and the meet and greet staff were great. Room was well appointed and very clean with a kettle coffee maker, small fridge and all the coffee tea and milk you would need.
We had an evening meal which was a Sunday 2 meat dinner and scampi. Staff were very courteous and the service was excellent. Both meals came piping hot were well cooked.
We had Breakfast the next morning which was the same standard with as much toast as you could eat.. Big thanks to Nigel who helped me sort a little key problem out. A great place to stay and eat and highly recommended...5 stars

We really enjoyed our stay at The Spread Eagle. Sawley has a beautiful abbey and river with some great local walks. The rooms were above the bar and were well decorated in a modern country style. A cooked breakfast was included which was an added bonus. Great value for money.

They have a broad menu of well cooked food. Staff were kind and very hepful.
The Inn is very well placed overlooking the Ribble with lovely countryside.
The breakfast menu lacked fruit compote and diced fruit. There was a fruit bowl of unprepared fruit.
The bathroom had nowhere that you could place your toilet bags. The room only had one seat, my partner had to use the bed to read.
The Inn is on the corner of a very busy road and traffic noise is prevalent more than you would expect in such a remote location.

Lovely location by the river. Nice place to stay bedroom was nice bed was comfortable staff friendly breakfast good.
Room 7 there’s an awful smell in the bathroom that lingers out into the bedroom. I did mention it on checkout. They knew about it. Just wish they had said about it. Also room was about a fan for kitchen I think noisy and people late under window shouting at night. I know it’s a pub but need to put tables away from bedrooms . Also think they should reduce the rate for that bedroom knowing it has a problem.

Great room and outlook. Really high quality overnight stay.
Tea in a pot at breakfast would have improved an otherwise excellent breakfast.

Room was spacious with good facilities but lighting was hit and miss.
Noisy trucks on road immediately outside window from early morning, presumably not something they can change. Liked side lights and dimmable spots but some dark spots in room.

Lovely spacious room (room 3) with views over the river. Evening meal was excellent and breakfast very good. We also very much appreciated the individual bicycle lockers in the car park.

This is a pretty building, nicely refurbished. Our room was really large, with a sofa space where we could sit and enjoy the view over the river. The well-stocked tea tray was a nice touch! We were delayed on our journey, yet the team stayed a bit later than usual to welcome us and make sure we were settled in. We really appreciated this great customer service.

Very clean, comfy beds. The room smelled amazing & was beautiful. Wonderful shower. Decent WiFi. Breakfast was delicious. Lovely, friendly staff with a warm welcome from Libby.
Very quiet, we had the kitchen extractor fan below us which you could hear with the window open but with it shut barely at all.
It was very hot in the room (august stay tbf) the air con cooled it down eventually but took a while. We should have put it on before we went down for dinner.

Location good for exploring the area. The staff were friendly and the room was clean and comfortable. We had a small double adequate for one night and with a view over the abbey.
The extractor fan from the kitchen could be heard in the room and unfortunately we had an issue with spiders in our room, 6 to be precise!

Food and drinks
Found it to be noisy at night due to it’s location on the bend of a busy road - light sleepers should request a room away from road- may be better in cooler weather when you can keep windows closed. It’s also a dog loving pub, however I prefer not to have my breakfast in the dining area next to a large Alsatian dog! Didn’t find the staff over friendly too.

Absolute quality, that’s all I can say. Well done to every person in this place, it’s a beautiful properly run pub, super efficient, professional, you name it, they have literally thought of everything!!! Smashing stay, room was incredible, a real lovely experience, such a surprise, lovely food, thanks for the dog box. Brilliant!! Just brilliant!! Everything a pub should be!!!

Whilst I generally enjoy staying in pubs/inns I usually accept a lower standard of accommodation - their first priority, after all, is to serve food and drink to their daily guests. This does not apply to the Spread Eagle! Situated in a beautiful spot beside the river Ribble, in an ancient, characterful building, I was treated to some of the finesthospitality I have known. The staff were welcoming, warm and friendly. The food was superb, particularly the breakfast, served attentively by Libby. My room was immaculately clean with no sign of the unintentional 'shabby chic' I find so often in pub accommodation. The good range of real ales was well-kept.
I shall be back with my wife for a longer stay in one of the grander rooms. (Gizza discount!)

The bedroom was beautiful and well equipped, the towels and bed linen were really good quality. Nice view from window , some nice treats like fresh milk in the fridge and tiny individual Eccles cakes .
The food in the restaurant and for breakfast was really good ,using local ingredients and freshly cooked to order .
The pub is on a blind corner and so walking from the pub to the car park was quite dangerous at times as cars buzzed round the corner .
It was really hot while we were there and you could only open the windows by about 6 inches so although the room had a fan we couldn’t get any through breeze and it got very hot in the room .
With the fan on all night and the windows open and the road traffic noise I found it hard to sleep . These factors in no way reflect on the hotel , they are not things they could control in anyway , they can’t be held responsible for the climate or the traffic !
