Cheong Fatt Tze - The Blue Mansion

The property was beautiful and the staff were polite, helpful and welcoming. The wonderful jazz trio at the cafe our last night was an unexpected surprise.

The property is a wonderful slice of Penang history that has been lovingly restored. Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. I expected it to be noisier but it was totally fine for me. It was busy with tourists for parts of the day but it was well managed and was not intrusive to my stay. Plenty of good breakfast options.

The air conditioning went off in the night at some point. I woke up hot. Unnecessary freebies in the fridge.

The staff genuinely tried their best to provide a positive experience and were clearly committed to ensuring their guests were happy.

A beautiful historic property, but the overall experience falls short at MYR 1,100 per night. The rooms and common areas are nicely designed, but the furniture is uncomfortable, breakfast is below the expected standard and service is inconsistent. Used dishes, room-service trolleys, rubbish bags and maintenance equipment remained visible in the back-of-house area outside our room, sometimes for over 24 hours. Large tour groups visited throughout the day, with some entering private guest areas while staff failed to intervene. This significantly affected our privacy. The pool was murky, the lounge had a serious mosquito problem, and even after three days, the gate staff did not recognise us as guests. The property is special and the staff mean well, but the service, privacy and upkeep do not justify the price.

Absolutely everything - the architecture, the complimentary mansion tour, the friendly staff, the incredible food, the super comfy bed in an incredible room...

Nothing, absolutely loved it
