The breakfast was lovely
All staff members I encountered seemed to wish that they would rather have been anywhere else. They definitely need training in guest relations and customer service.

I stayed with my friend and two daughters for a concert in the city. We were lucky enough to find that The Townhouse have rooms with two king size beds, so were able to book one room for the 4 of us. Rooms were clean, spacious and beds were huge!

The hotel benefits from a truly strategic location, which is without doubt one of its strongest points. It is situated just a short walk from both Canal Street (the Gay Village) and Chinatown, with the street itself acting almost as a boundary between the two areas. The Manchester Art Gallery, which is free to visit, is also around a 5-minute walk away, making the location even more appealing for those interested in culture. Manchester Piccadilly station is less than a 10-minute walk away, making it very easy to reach the airport by train in around 15 minutes, at a reasonable cost (approximately £7), which is extremely convenient for travellers.
The property is overall very attractive, however there are several aspects that, taken together, make it feel more in line with a lower category than a four-star hotel. Cleanliness is generally good (to be clear, the hotel is not dirty at all) but a little more attention to detail would make a noticeable difference and help guests feel more reassured and comfortable. The rooms, as well as the bathroom and facilities, feel somewhat dated and would clearly benefit from refurbishment. The décor is rather old-fashioned, and this further reinforces the impression that the hotel does not fully meet the expectations usually associated with a four-star property. The breakfast is basic. There is nothing to complain about, but it lacks the “wow factor” that guests often hope for from a buffet at this level. While some members of staff were friendly and helpful, there were occasions at reception where we did not feel fully acknowledged. Our questions were answered, but without eye contact and while staff continued with other tasks, which at times came across as slightly dismissive. Although a minor issue, this kind of interaction contributes to an experience that feels less polished than one would expect from a hotel of this rating. Overall, I would not dismiss this hotel, but neither would I fully recommend it without reservations. This is a shame, as the potential is clearly there. With some targeted investment, greater attention to detail and a more consistent approach to guest interaction, the hotel could significantly raise its standard and better reflect its advertised category.
